The worst part of that "mod" is that it looks like crapola!! I could see if the owner got something killer looking airbrushed on or something like that but that looks like Mad Max's house kit from when he jammed at the Thunderdome Bar!! Absolutely awful!HurtingHurtingHurting

have a wonderful evening

There are plenty of cheap, vintage concert tom kits out there - Why oh why would someone convert double heads to single heads.

Don't even get me started on the paint job - Looks like one of those Ddrum Punx kits... bleah!

That reminds me of the hacked up 3pc 1980s? Pearl set I saved from the trash and made my Cocktail drum (as seen in another thread at this site) out of. The previous owner had removed the reso heads and associated hardware on the Bass, Floor Tom and Up Tom and had painted the shells flat black. It might have been some kind of fad for a certain group of musicians in the 80s – 90s. I condensed everything around the FT to get the Cocktail drum and left it flat black. It is ugly but works the way I need it too. Doesn’t sound bad either!

I used all the hardware from the batter head side of the BD to create the bottom batter side of the Cocktail drum. I’m just completing the add on snare I made out of the 13” tom (I cut down to 5" deep). All three batter sides that were available when I got this set are now being used again on the condensed Cocktail kit version. So nothing was wasted.
