Kits of Olde

Thought I would start a thread focused on "Kits We Have Known".

Pop up a pic or three of some of your favorite kits you've owned in the past...BUT NO LONGER HAVE...and miss...:(

My intent is for us to share some trips down memory lane and experience a bit of melancholia. It would help if a bit of history was attached.

We might have to dig out a picture of two to make this real. Don't forget, you don't have to have a scanner to play. You can just take a digital pic of the original and post that.

Should be fun.

I'll start us off with a shot or two of my favorite Premier kit from the 80's. It was a fun double bass affair (thank you Keith) that did the job both live and in the studio. It was a serious workhorse for the sessions and gigs I did while sojourning in California. It morphed into a monster, complete with Slingerland Cut-aways and a full Simmons kit with the bass mounted above my head. It was a blast to play. I said goodbye to it in California just prior to heading off to Washington.

Now, it's your turn.

Everyone who doesn't have my posts blocked knows I only have one kit, only ever had one kit, and still got that damned kit!!

While I do not personally know Mcjnic, based on the perception I get from reading his posts, that kit with the nine or ten drums, the electric gong looking thing, and the nice variety of cymbals seems to be the anti-Mcjnic kit if I ever saw one!!! What a transformation you have made heading into the "calmer waters" of musicianship.

I look forward to reading the posts on this thread............

have a wonderful evening

Well...I only have two that I miss.....one was my real Jazzette kit in Black Panther, the other a "jazzette" kit (it was a 6-ply kit that I assembled and refinished) in green sparkle.

The kit that got away, a very interesting topic, mcjnic.

I had a late 80's Gretsch kit that was repainted by JC's Custom Drums in a emerald green nitron. It looked amazing and sounded better. I was the second owner in the mid-90's. The sizes were 10,12,13,15,22. The 15 had all the lugs replugged and moved over an inch. This bugged me a great deal. The person who put the kit together swore up and down the shell was an original Gretsch. This matter drove me nuts. I ended up selling this kit in 2000 and it was a HUGE mistake. Eveytime I played this kit, I am not kidding, people would offer me money on the spot to sell my drums to them. Even crusty soundmen would give this kit it's praises. I have been chasing those Gretschs. I know who has 'em and he will not sell 'em. I wish I had a picture, they were sweet.

Rogers early Fullerton Blue Strata 22,13,16 w/brass Dynasonic
My first kit, 1983 Ludwig Rocker? (it has the classic lugs and 4ply maple shell) 22,12,13,16 ..now in black oyster pearl. I still have it
Stop Sign USA Gretsch (80's), black nitron jasper shell 22,12,13,16
1995 Fibes Austin,Texas Badge (original owner) 22,10,12,16,18 in natural wood
USA 2007 Rosewood Gretsch 22,13,16 w/12inch 70's Rosewood Gretsch tom

Is the tom mount on the green kit a modern replacement?

This set actually belonged to my older brother but it is the one I grew up learning to play on in the late 60's. Rogers 12,16,20 in BDP. What I wouldn't give to have it back.
