Because the wrap it has a value. Probably not an ebay item. Is it a 3 ply shell with rings? That would make worth a little more. But as it is, 25-40 and that is a good, reasonable price. I would not put that one on CL. Someone here, perhaps myself, will more than likely want that drum. I am thinking about putting together an "Orphans" kit that would use wraps like this, all those that leave people scratching their head wondering what to do with that strange, un-Holy looking orphan. Oughta be a grand project! A bottom for that is as easy as shooting an email to Mikey, or looking for one of those ebay "piles o' honey" mis-fit parts listings. It may take a minute or two, but you know, we all have a life, and it revolves around our other lives, and this we do not as income, but as a passion. By the way, that is a Star drum. I know it says Merc, it is a Star. Looking at the badge it says Worlds Supreme"....
Thanks for the info. It is a 16"--forgot to say that before. The other thing is that it's missing the bottom rim. The drum doesn't match the Gretsch set by any stretch; the Gretsch is champagne sparkle. Obviously I would never trash a vintage drum, whatever the value. I was just playing on that standard "firewood" reference to Asian stuff. Really the only consideration was that if it were a blue sparkle $25 FT, then it really only merits being put on CL for someone locally so no shipping. If it's got some real value by virtue of its wrap, then maybe it's worth the bother of packing it up for shipping.
