Check out this "unit". 17" A type I transitional

I'm referring to this as a "unit" to draw everyone's attention to the fact that this is now the official term for what Zildjian produces these days. These are now referred to as "units", and not cymbals. So now….lets all get hip to the latest change in lingo. I'm sure that we can now all learn to readjust our terminology accordingly…..now can't we?

Anyway the following was made back when they used to make these things called "cymbals". What an archaic term.

It's a "nominal" 17", actually measuring 16-3/4". It weighs 1207 grams.

17 A type I transitional stamp

This is the era of the only true 1940's trans stamp. About 95% of the ones seen on eBay that make refererence to theirs being 1940's vintage are not.

....my unit is not shaped like that at all....

So Zildjian quit making cymbals....I guess I'll have to start buying Dream. They make Cymbals....not units....

And that tem "unit" is very appropriate.

Because they actually sound more like "units" than cymbals.

There is no definition of "unit" that would even come close to fitting and replacing "cymbal" as the name of this item. What the heck are "they" thinking? Does no one have a dictionary? This is absolute nonsense and a very feeble attempt at trying to adjust vernacular for coolness. Failure! Absolute failure.

Might I suggest the following:

poodle dishes

funk flats

slap happy's

amp busters

edgy betty's

roundy sounders

shimmer tymbals (look it up!)

cup o' flows

bells and bows

organ grinders

vocal scourges

pocket sockets

drive by's

throb wheels

or something else.

But in all fairness, I just heard a few examples of Zildjian's K Dark medium and was quite impressed, and surprised to find that I liked 2 out of 3 of them. That's makes that line an excellent one. In fact I'll say in general that's the best line of cymbals they've come up with in at least the last 20 years.

But getting back to the original topic, I looked up comparables on eBay and came up with this 16" being the closest to what I got. It's about an inch smaller and not as old making it perhaps overall a bit less desirable as a result. But look what it went for:

Now compare that to the auction that I just won for that 17":

Hey Drumholic, i get what you mean about the price fluxuation. But i have to admit i've seen 17" in that era go for $200+. I personaly lost a 17" at christmas time(actually i let my wife bid while i went to sleep, big mistake!) and it sold for $76.00.

I won a trans stamp 15" for $60.00 and one recently sold for around $135.00 It really does seem to be the luck of the draw when it comes to ebay.

BTW thanks for your help here with stamp ID! It's been a big help for me. Do you have anything in print form to purchase so i can read away from the computer?

Gary.
