Super Classic v Hollywood: strictly speaking...

Loading...

I'm looking at the Ludwig catalog from 1967, pictures of the Hollywood and Super Classic.

The Hollywood bass drum has the center tom mount drilled in the middle of the bass drum.

The Super Classic has the shell mount holder.

Is there any other difference between the two bass drums? Before those tom mounts where put into each model, are the bass drum shells the same?

I guess I'm trying to determine what the major differences are between the Hollywood and Super Classic.

Same exact shell. It's like looking at cars and noting one has airco, leather, and a spoiler. The other doesn't. Same car, though.

If you look closely at the item numbers, 922pc are noted on both. This is the 22 inch bass drum with pearl covering and chrome hardware (pc).

I was also under the impression that they had different hardware (stands) options.

If you look at them side by side and scan the itemized list, you can see the exact differences for that year. That's really all there is to this. One was a two up and one was a one up. One had two cymbal stands and one had one cymbal stand and a bass mount.

If you want the history of these kits, that's a horse of a different color. But, in 1967, this is what you got.

When the new line of Atlas hardware came out (1970, I think) they offered the exact same set the Hollywood was -except with the newer hardware line. They called it the "Big Beat". The Hollywood was still offered, too. The only difference was the hardware package. The drums were configured the same.
