Neil Peart Slingerland 3-Ply Artist Snare.

Neil also mentioned in an article that he had a late 70s Slingerland Spitfire that he really liked...

I have three Spitfires and I'm rebuilding a 4th... They are by far the best sounding Snare ever... I've been in a number of recording studios where the sound engineer has liked my snare sound so much they sampled my snare sound for future use...

I am having a hard time finding info on my slingerland set, its stamped 65 of oct and it has the deep blue sparkle finish. I found a catalog and in 65 the only bass drum that had a 22 in option was the Krupa set. Is that true, so if mine is from 65 and is a 22 does that make it the krupa set? It looks like the artist snare. It has 13, and 16 in toms. Thanks for any links or help.

Hi Jim, I understand that you are a fan of Slingerland "Spitfires". I just bought one on ebay! My model is not a brass but a white laquered maple snare with 5-ply shell as far as I can see.

Now, is it true what some people say that the maple "Spitfires" from 1979, catalogued as 5-ply actually were single ply shells?

Thanks in advance,

Fred :D
