Nice score,I have played a few sling kits from that era and 1 was one of the best sounding vintage kits I have ever played,I don't see alot of slings down this way ,I don't think they ever had a strong dealer down here .I would love to find a nice players kit like that for the classic/oldies band I play in.

I am thinking now about taking them all apart in the future and having them re-painted. I thought about wrap, but the small tom is wrapped and I can hear a noticable difference in the sound quality vs. wrap or natural finish. But then again, there are some nice wrap finishes out there and would make the job so much easier. Who knows, I might change my mind later on.

This is interesting to hear as there has always been a debate (raging or otherwise) around the differrences between Duco shells and wrapped shells, and wether or not there is an actual audible difference.

I am not sure what kind of paint job you would consider but to get anything that would look somewhat original you would have to go after the 2 tone finish which can be really expensive as it is quite difficult to achieve. Aside from that, painting drums a single flat colour always seems to take a lot away from the aesthetics of the kit IMO. essentially this will inevitably push the resale price down. I realise this may not be you intention at all but just like the additional holes really make no difference to sound on the kit they do turn away a lot of potential buyers. Even though wrapping it in a new wrap would be as un original it is far less noticeable and far less of a niche.

For what its worth, unless you are commited to getting that duco finish you really cant lose with a great pearl or sparkle wrap.

Just my 2 cents.

to get closer to the dates - what colour are the insides of the shells? if they are in fact a 60's kit that sat in slingerlands warehouse to only be sold at the beginning of the 70's they would probably have the milky chocolate shell paint. Slingerland did this on the insides of their shells in the late 60's. I would struggle to believe it was a kit that sat with slingerland from the early 60's for near on 10 years before being sold.

but stranger things have happened

Too bad you can't get that wrap...the closest is red onyx which wasn't a Slingerland color.

Even better then. The only ones out there are the only ones left then. Thanks for the info.

The 3 ply Slingy's are great sounding drums! you're gonna love them. Here's a set i rehabbed from being pretty beat. Still kicking myself for selling this one!yes, the tom mount's original. Even had a Slingerland label. Oh, and the band was "The Dentures". Surf band, hence the shirts...Bill D.

Old Slingy's are nice.My friend has a 13/16/22 with a steel snare that's been added to,but the original blondish-interior rering drums sound excellent. They are black and gold badge also.

Have these been spray painted over pearl? Are they the same? The aluminum bass mount,if original, narrows the build date-they were not around long.14" floor toms are cool.I bought a modern Blackhawk 14" for my church set-low note but very focused.
