Hello to all of you who may remember me. Been a long time since I’ve posted here, haven’t lurked much either. With the advent of FB and other media, I have kind of slipped away from here. Life has a way of determining your priorities, nothing bad just busy with work and life.

I was crushed to read about Mike Layton’s passing, he was always a gentleman when he and I communicated, as well I envied his collection of knowledge and drums.

I’ve been slowly selling off my collection via eBay, OfferUp and word of mouth. The band I was in for 10 plus years has officially “retired” and as of yet I have no strong desire to play in a band, but try to maintain some very random times for practice.

I thought I would share a gift that a friend gave me, original picture of a Ludwig kit that I was told wasn’t used but now have come to the conclusion it was used in a catalog in the 70’s.

Hoping to make more time to check in and say hi more often. On a side note as I said I am selling items and have a large majority of parts from older American drums as well as MIJ stuff. Feel free to send me a PM if you are looking for something and I can check.

Wishing you all a smooth road on life’s highway and a keen eye for the bumps in the road.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Hey Gary!

I still see you kicking around on FB from time to time, and you’re absolutely correct … MANY different drum/drumming groups today with FB offering the most without a doubt. That said, there has been some serious turnover/exodus from the VDF .. but .. a small “core group” still remains from years past as well as a nice group of new guys that contribute. David and myself still run the joint, so there is definitely some normalcy there! Nice to see you check in Gary! BEST!!!

Hi backbeatkeeper! I am one of the new (old) guys on this site. I only have my original 1959 Ludwig snare drum that I learned to play and a 1980's set of Rockers. Sadly, I sold my 1960's Ludwig Super Classic set when I graduated from high school. Oh well. Just curious, do you have any idea what happened to the set you mentioned that was featured in the catalogue and never sold?

Telstar, I don’t know of what became of the kit. I know the picture hung in B3’s office for a bit from what I was told from the person I got it from. If you look closely it says, “ from my office to yours”.

As always TommyP, you’re the classiest guy in the room. Thank you for all you do. Now if I could just find my old friend here who I’ve had so much fun with….?? Wishing you clear skies and no wind.

That picture was used on pages 10 and 11 of the '76 Ludwig flier. I know because I had that flier when I was a teenager and thought that was one of the coolest looking drum set pictures I had ever seen.

I sure remember your handle. Nice to see it again. Not being on social media, I continue to check in here for a vintage drum fix.
