Ludwig Keystone Club Date Floor Tom Leg Brackets-What Parts Do I Need?

Loading...

Greetings,

I assume that there should be some sort of spring mechanism and a push button somewhere? Obviously I need the leg as well. Were they straight legs?

I personally don't like these push button contraptions. Not many do. Is there a suitable alternative for a regular bracket on these? I know the classic Ludwig bracket hole spacing does not line up with these. Other than an Inde mount, any other suggestions to avoid the push buttons without drilling?

Just to be "period correct" though, could someone let me know what is missing from the leg brackets, and if anyone has said parts?

Thanks.

V

I’ve found some pictures of what they should be like and yes they used straight legs. I believe your hole spacing is 1 7/8” on those.

I think the newer Ludwig leg mounts have 2 1/4” spacing.

Maybe you can try fabricating your own with a spring and bend a piece of metal, shape and drill a hole as shown?

Another idea is to maybe drill a hole in the middle of that mount and use an eye bolt that’ll fit a 9 mm leg though it and put it up though the hole and use a wing nut to tighten it like the old Slingerland type leg mounts that were like those. Either way, it’ll take some fabricating or hopefully you can just find what you need.

All the best and good luck.

I’ve added a picture of an older style Slingerland similar mount.

Thanks for the response, Olimpass!

The hole spacing on the existing brackets is 2 -5/16". I wish they were 1-7/8", because that is the spacing for the Ludwig Classic bracket, and I would rather just use those. I was thinking about your idea of using an eyebolt and just drilling through the center of the bracket like the old Slingerlands. In this case, however, I would be drilling right through the script Ludwig logo on the bracket (see photo). I could use Ludwig Eyebolts; they sell them separately. I'm not sure I even want to fool with the spring mechanism. Although I have no experience with them, they general consensus is that they seem unreliable. I definitely don't want to drill any holes in the shell. Even if I did, one old hole from the existing bracket would be exposed as the classic Ludwig brackets have narrower hole spacing and wouldn't cover the old hole.

Any Club Date owners have any workarounds or tips that work for you?

Thanks,

V

Thanks, I guess I got those measurements flipped around. I’ve seen a picture of a measurement that looked like it was 2-1/4” for your spring style leg mount.

I’ve had a drum with that spring style mount and liked them but one time I was leaning on one before and the floor tom leg mount slid down a little on the leg. A good stiff spring would prevent that but also be harder to compress for adjustment.

Hi V!

I realize that the last thing you want to do is drill through the original mounts! However, if you decide that this is your best option, I have three older Ludwig-style eyebolts, complete with chromed nuts. The eyebolt accepts a standard 9mm or 3/8" tom leg. The eyebolt is 1/4", so you'd only need a 1/4" hole, which you might be able to drill above or below the "Ludwig" logo.

If you decide to go this route, you can have these parts gratis! Let me know.

Thanks, Jeff! The parts are just sitting around and maybe they can be used. Not sure if V has seen this post yet.

Mark! Thanks so much for your generosity! I think those might work. Better to drill the bracket than drill the shell, I guess.

If those eyebolts hold a 3/8" leg, that should work. I like that they only take a 1/4" wingnut as opposed to a 5/16". Smaller hole!

I'll send you PM. Thanks again!

V! Yes, they are definitely for a a 3/8" leg. I tried a Slingerland straight 3/8 leg and it's perfect. As I mentioned earlier, you should be able to drill a hole above/below the "Ludwig" logo to preserve it.

PM received!
