Rare MIJ Finish

Sweet looking kit if you ask me. Nice, green ripple finish. 14X20, 8X12, 5X14

I'm looking for a 14X14 floor tom in the same finish, but I don't think I will ever find one tbh. It seems like quite a rare finish. Obviously the kit needs some parts. What you see in the photos is what I've got. If anyone has any parts, particularly the floor tom, please get in touch.

I know there are some MIJ maniacs on the site, so, here it is...

BEHOLD!

Those are Awesome Chromeo

They appear to be Sakae made

Yes I agree finding the floor tom could be tough.

I devoted a whole top shelf for 2 and 3 pc kits minus of the floor toms

They display well with less room needed

and every so often a floor tom will show up to complete one and so I move it down to a wider shelf.

Wow! Incredible display, Kenwood. You got some really nice ones there. Thanks so much for the information. The 14X14 floor toms are hard to come by in any wrap. I used the bass drum on a recording session. It sounded quite nice. I just shoved a blanket in it. I just wanted a very dry "thud". It worked out pretty well, but I mostly wanted the kit just for how it looks. It's a sight to behold.

Thanks very kindly Chromeo, I have been collecting these little kits for about ten years give or take Along the way about six years ago I responded to an ad for a hodge podge of mij drum shells among them was your missing floor tom or something extremely similar It was the same green, center lug I think? and missing parts .Long story short the seller had no desire to separate the odd mixture of shells or have anything to do with shipping ..I may even have a picture of it if I search for it some.

Cheers, Kenwood. I'd certainly be interested in seeing that. If you have a pic, that is. I've only even seen one other drum which was a very close match and that was a Rogers R-380 16X16 Floor Tom. I'm sure they were made by Yamaha.

Hi Chromeo!

A really cool wrap on your kit! My educated guess is that it was sold as a 3pc. I hate to say this, but your chances of finding a matching floor tom, in either a 14x14 or 16x16, are virtually slim-to-none! I base that on the finish alone, which is one of those rare wraps that never shows in any catalogs. I would imagine that the US importer saw some sample wrap swatches and liked this particular color.

Attached are some pictures of my early 60's Crown 3pc. The finish doesn't show in any literature that I've been able to find. It resembles a cross between a blue strata or ripple, with a sprinkling of glass glitter thrown in! It's a cool wrap...but...I know I'll never find a matching floor tom!

Kenwood!

One of the best displays of MIJ kits I've ever seen! I'm envious! I'd love to tour all of this, but, alas, we are separated by quite a distance! I'm on the West coast and your on the East!

Chromeo:

Wow...that finish IS gorgeous. One of the nicest MIJ I have seen. What you should do is send a pic to Bum Wrap, and have them make you a replica sheet to wrap a floor tom. It would be the closest you will get. VERY cool color! That set would be great for a surf band.

You know, that wrap is SO nice, I think if it were my set, I'd take all the 1960s MIJ hardware off it, and replace it with quality hardware. All 3 drums are center lug, which would really keep the costs down. I bet you can find quality USA lugs with the same hole spacing.
