You know...being a drummer in the world is a very, VERY rare talent. I did a quick search: "How many drummers are in the world?" The answer was roughly something like 3.5 million. Then I did a search to find out how many people are in the world, now. The answer was: ~7.5 BILLION. So what percentage of those 7.5 billion people is 3.5 million drummers? The answer is, roughly: 0.057%My point is that we are some of the rarest people on Earth! Can any of us say that it was an easy life of nothing but smooth ice? I seriously doubt it. No. But no good stories came out of living the easy life. either. I'm sure any one of us could write a book! Hey, JR....Maybe it's time to start writing yours? -just sayin'! ;)

I never thought of it like that, but you're right! I can't quit, God gave me a talent, I never asked for it or even took lessons, no matter how small or insignificant it might seem to others. But, at the same time, I'm not in the right frame of mind right now to play in a band. I need to get over this darn depression and anxiety, it's a tough battle especially with my medical issues.

I just hope you keep a kit and keep playing,I think in the long run that will help with your health and state of mind.

JR. I don't get to play near as much,or with the quality I once had, as I want anymore either. But it is nice to just go and sit behind the kit to relax some time and take my mind off the worries of the day. Keep on....

Ya, I will definitely have a kit and I'd like to start playing in a band one day, maybe not to gig so much, but to just have guys I can jam with. But before that happens I need to figure out what's going on with me. Not only am I seeing a Pulmonologist, I'm seeing an Endocrinologist for an adrenal gland adenoma and a Hemothlogist/Oncologist for an enlarged spleen. I had my first visit with him and he didn't think I had anything to worry about, I'm suppose to see him again in May after he had me do a blood and 24 urine test. I'm hoping he's right. So you see, I have a lot of issues that need to be resolved before I can even think about playing with other musicians.

I'm sorry to hear of the tough time you're going through and very sorry for your loss of your. I went through a similar situation in February 2021 with a series of deaths in my family in a very close succession, followed by the death of a good friend not too much longer. It's hard to pick ourselves up after a series of emotional trauma.

I don't play out much anymore due to a variety of reasons.

I think you should definitely take a break for a while. Something I enjoy is being the "fill in guy." Always a "want to" and never a "have to." I take the gigs that I feel like doing when I'm called a few times a year or so.

I hope you get to feeling better my friend. Stressful times can really stifle our creativity. Give it a bit of time, regroup your thoughts and yourself, and then you'll be ready to get out again.

Best of luck to you buddy

Take care of yourself! Drumming will always be there. You can always stay with it by getting some IEM's and hooking them up to your phone and drumming along with songs, YouTube, and drummerless tracks just for fun if you would like. But you are under no obligations to do so!

Please take care of yourself, and do your best to focus on the good and simple things every day. Hope this helps! God bless.
