Ludwig Combo Vistalite?

Loading...

Greetings,

These popped up here for sale in my general area. I had seen Ludwig Combo snares for sale (I believe the lugs, and the shell were made of plastic). I have ever seen Combo branded Vistalites before.

Link to the ad and pictures for posterity.

So, that's what a unicorn looks like, eh?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Haven't seen too many with the clear shell. Have seen blues and reds in the past. Here is my set of blue Vistalite Combos. They came from the factory with plastic lugs. I play mine and switched to the conventional metal lugs which have the same pattern. The exterior shot shows the metals and plastic on the inside pic. Same shells as the normal Vistalites. Just no bottom lugs on the toms. Bearing edges are there though. Found mine about 20 years ago along with original Acrolite and hardware.

Well I'll be danged! Were these ever in a catalog?

Mike, is that the same shell configuration as OP's? (13/14/16/22)?

They are in the 1980 Ludwig catalog. Mine are 22/12/13/16. There were also some wood shelled Combos too.

Mike,

Those are great! Love the Dr. Seuss-inspired cymbal holders on the outdoor photo.

I didn't know they came in a Vistalite either! Great looking kits. I picked up a Combo kit in B-Block and mine had the metal rim around the bottom. When I got them I didn't know too much about the Combo series and was actually a bit surprised to find they had plastic lugs. Am still working on replacing them with the metal ones. Ended up getting some wrap that matched the kit and refurbishing a snare so it is now a complete kit. It sounds great!

No Guru - I just love collecting & learning about vintage drums!

Some of my favorites from the kits in the collection
58 WFL New Yorker Blue Sparkle
67 Ludwig Hollywood Red Psychedelic
69 Ludwig Standard Red Ruby Strata

20's Leedy Black Elite
51 Leedy & Ludwig Knob Tension
58 WFL Buddy Rich Classic Blue Sparkle
