My latest acquisition

I no longer have the two drum sets I had been offering for sale since mid-December. I now have a Slingerland drum set with very close serial numbers for the 12, 13, and 16 toms in the 134xxx range and the bass drum in the 133xxx range. Dr. C.J. Wenk's Slingerland dating guide places the four drums at the beginning of the series of badges in 1968.

I've never been one to be satisfied with ordinary and mundane drums. Consequently, I've owned and played many oddball color drums --especially Satin Flame drums. So, this Lavender Satin Flame set has called out my name for a while whenever I saw it at my favorite vintage drum dealer's shop. The drums came to me with a great sounding Slingerland 6.5 X 14 wood snare drum with a Chicago badge that was only in use from 1959-1961. The date stamp inside the shell is a blurry December 14, 19??. There is a letter M indicating natural, stained, or painted. It's for sure that the current high gloss black lacquer is a re-fin.

I'll try to get better pictures soon.

The dull aluminum-looking finish on the dual tom holder adds credence to the drum set being from the first year or two (1968-69) of the Set-O-Matic hardware.

Would love to see better pictures of your set. Let me know if you're having any problems posting them.

Never a fan of the satin wraps. I got rid of a Camco satin finish. It just always looked smudgy and dull. Though I wish I had them still... :)

Cool color for collecting. Unfortunately, all of the vintage "satin flame" wraps that I have seen, have lots of scratches on them when viewed close up. But, hey, if those types of wraps float your boat, then the lavender version is probably going to be right up there with the rarest colors...I'm assuming. More detailed pics will be appreciated!

I just took the drums out of my car and sorta set up in the house before putting them in the room where I keep my drums. I didn't pay attention to the fact that the floor tom legs were inserted upside down to let the tom sit flat against the cargo floor of the SUV. They have now been properly inserted in the receiving brackets. I've owned and played Satin Flame drums off and on ever since they were first introduced in the 1960's. The wrap on these drums has very few marks on it.

Nice hope they play as amazing as they look..

They are 60's Slingerlands. Of course, they play beautifully.

I looked through my Slingerland folder and found this beautiful 4pc set that was on eBay back in July, 2013. This set was pristine, but I don't have any information if it sold, or for how much. What it does, is to show how really beautiful this wrap can be!

Thanks for the pictures of that drum set. I'm keeping my eyes open for a Lavender Satin Flame snare drum.
