These are incredibly cool drums! I've never seen a kit like this before; what's up with the rims? I'm assuming it has something to do with what appears to be lug-less shells?

Here's another photo, this with only remaining original 18" crash from my uncle. The cybals on the l-arms are a pawn shop 70's A. Zildjian heavy 18" ride and a modern A. 6" splash. I have a 50's 20" A. ride and 50's 16" crash & 14" A. thin crash on the way, along with another W&A cymbal stand.

The rail consolette is attached to the shell "rim" not the head rim. The lugs are tube that run between the shell rims. The shells are thin aluminum.

That white line in the 1st pic is a reflection.

This drum kit is one of the best examples of just how beautiful a kit can be without traditional lugs. To me, it looks ultra clean and super modern -even by today's standards of modern. And yet, it's not modern!

As many of you know, I am a big fan of the Arbiter designs and the Peavey (Volpp) Radial Pro drums, too. Part of the attraction is due to the lack of traditional lugs. I know the no-lugs look isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's definitely a thing of beauty in my eyes. And, all the aforementioned designs were designed with the intention to prevent the deformation of the shell when under tension....so it wasn't just a look for looks-sake.

But, as it turns out, most drummers love their lugs and so the pursuit of a "better" way to tension a drumhead went by the wayside.

But, man-oh-MAN! That Duplex may be one of the best examples of an "O-Lugs" drum I have seen. And the sizes are perfect!

Here are some pictures of the how the pedal attaches to the bass. There is a metal loop on the bottom that pedal clamps onto. The pedal is an original Duplex Heyn, which is what came with the kit.

Here's a weird one. Picked this up off eBay. A Nick Manoloff hi-hat stand, supposedly from the 40's. I have no idea how this clutch is supposed to work?

I have that exact hi-hat stand. Mine is marked "WAMCO" (William & Auge Manufacturing Company...or something like that!). I never saw the clutch to one before, though. Mine just had some old Slingerland clutch on it when I got it.

I'd like to see some closeup pics of that clutch, though!
