THIS DRUM SET HAS BEEN SOLD: Edit...If you are serious about buying this drum set, and want them shipped to you, please contact me to discuss this.

$850 cash and carry. This drum set is configured as 8x12, 14x14, and 14x20. The drums were found at a house in the countryside west of Fort Worth. The white bands of wrap on the drums were all delaminated with ugly brown splotches from humidity between the white layer. and the clear top layer That white wrap could not be salvaged. So, I ordered vintage White Marine Pearl strips cut to size from Precision. I have since acquired wrap material (white sparkle Cortex counter top material) that will go with the drums if the new owner wants to return them to that cosmetic. The drums are in 8.5 to 9.0 condition. The interiors are the chocolate milk wash that was used from 1966-1970. A few drums made as late as early 1972 have the chocolate milk interiors. My guess is that this set was ordered no later than 1972. The factory must have pulled together completed shells and wrapped them the way the order specified. This was certainly before the bicentennial in 1976. The serial numbers on the toms are clear to read....19851 for the 8x12.....19877 for the 14x14. The number on the bass drum badge is a bit too blurred for me to read it. Maybe your eyes are better than mine. There are no dates inside the shells.

The red sparkle snare drum and blue sparkle canister throne are not included in the sale. Of course, the single tom holder, floor tom legs, and bass drum spurs are included. The cymbal arm is not included.

Here are some pictures of this beautiful and fun-to-play drum set. I would prefer to have the new owner come to pick them up in the Houston area. I will consider shipping them. Let's talk.

Please email me to discuss a sale. fentex5@aol.com

This set is clearly early 70's NOT late 60's. No earlier than late '70 and no later than '72. Contrary to popular belief Slingerland offered the Red, White and Blue wrap for many years. It was not just for the '76 bi-centennial year. GLWS

Depending on which articles and books you read and which authorities you choose to believe, I think that it's safe to say that the shells are from the 1966--1970 manufacturing period. The wrap could have been from the same period. The drums were almost certainly made prior to 1973.

The badges on your drums (black/silver) were first used in mid 1970, they did not exist in the 60's. Look at your own reference to the original "Sparkling White Pearl" wrap that you removed from these drums, it was not even available until 1970! BTW, there is no difference in construction between a late 60's and early 70's shell.

This is why my exception to my own rule of not liking any drums made after 1969 is Slingerland because their early 70s drums are essentially the same as their later 60s drums. I think that we don't have any disagreement because for every "they never did this in 19xx" there will be exceptions.

I have listed these drums for sale on a few other selling sites. I have received many comments and inquiries. They are still for sale.

Wouldn't matter to me when they were made. They are beautiful! Good luck!

Late 60's vs. early 70's will have little to no effect on the sale of these. One could expect dating errors if listed on Craigslist, eBay, or even Reverb, but on the Vintage Drum Forum you should at least be in the correct decade. People use this site regularly for research. Nice early seventies drums in desirable sizes, GLWS.

I'm not looking to argue with you. But, that's a pretty damn smug pronouncement from you. I am good with this explanation from the Slingerland drum dating guide by Dr. C. J. Wenk:

Please have a happy new year's eve.
