Need help ID'ing this 10 lug Ludwig snare

Loading...

Hi, everyone.

I got this Blue and Olive 10 lug snare from my buddy who is selling a few things due to age and failing memory. It is stunning to see in person. All he said was "It's a blue and olive, but it's rare and was never used" That's all he knew.

Maple interior/no rings and no drum muffler. I thought maybe a 10 lug Jazz Fest?

I did a lot of searching, but couldn't come up with much.

Any replies are appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Also, thanks for having me here.

I was a member here many years ago and participated. But, somehow lost all my info.

I'm not sure...but I think this drum might be one of those reissue B/O badge drums from a few years ago.

Without a tone control, with that badge, I'd guess the drum is not older than 15 years old?

And, not very rare, sorry!

Looks like a newer Maple Classic LS401 snare drum. You can order them in either 8 or 10 lug versions. You also had your choice of badges, too... Keystone or B/O

Looks like a really nice drum! And, I's say it's probably less than 10 years old.

I believe that BEC is correct about the age. Looking at the ply makeup, it's definitely different than my 7-ply Classic Maple shell. I know that Ludwig changed the shell layup a few times for the Classic Maple series.

Well Crap....lol

I should of added, he had the complete kit from that period and it was pretty beat up.

Then added ...he never used the snare he got with this kit.

A drummer from the area died and he was put in charge of selling all his gear.(He had 6 or so kits and the guy had been around forever.

He got the complete kit as payment.

I did find a pic of another today but was listed as period correct.

I'll see if I can find the thread/pic again.

Here it is.

I might add, I have seen the reissue. But you can do a search and none are 10 lug. Even under Google images.

This is what had me intrigued...try to even find a picture of one. Impossible. Except in this link above. That's it.

I know B/O drums are not coveted as others.

And, I am not disagreeing with responses.

Just try for a few minutes to locate anything like it. Which lead my friend and me as it being an oddity..I called it rare! lol

Hey Mark, thanks!

I found those and hadn't seen them.

I searched every photo and add I could and none have the B/O badge and the throw off is not 70's vintage that is on mine. See this pic here. This is what all the throw offs look like on the LS401

My understanding is that any B/O badge with a serial number ABOVE 3140000 is a reissue badge. From what I can tell, the badge on the drum in question is above that number. I'm sticking to my reissue theory.

As far as the throw off...I'm not sure how many years Ludwig has been making that new version. I don't think it would be out of the ordinary to have the older throw off on a few of these ten lug drums, though.

I would agree after more researching.

Thanks everyone. It has thrown me for a loop.

I hope I can get it dialed in soon.
