Wow sorry to hear about Jim Petty. He ws really THE only guy who was doing repos that were accurate. The Ludwig rail consolettes he made were exact copies. Sad news. Rest In Peace, Jim!

I was very sad to hear that my long-time friend Jim had died. Before we moved from the Dallas area to the Houston area, I visited Jim at his shop many times. Jim either had or made some little doodads for some old snare throw-offs and taught me how to properly tweak and use the mechanisms. We had some major political differences that we did not waste time trying to discuss.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Still, when was the last time any of us saw a Rogers mardi gras 20, 12, 14 and matching snare for sale? It's for the serious collectors.

Yes, upon reflection, I would agree that the investment would be worth it to most collectors and especially Rogers collectors. Matched kits are SO rare these days!

I know this seller and I fondled those drums just last TuesdayI bought a scarred up, Gretsch round badge shell pack, in avocado satin flame from him (pictured)And while there he showed me the Rogers kit and told me he planned to put them on the bay.I have bought some really cool old random stuff at great pricesand he also threw in some awesome cookies as wellThis seller is a nice guy and Totally does not need the breadIn fact I know a good portion of the proceeds for this auctionwill end up donated to Shriners hospital. as he also donated half of what I gave him for the Gretsch drums, to them already. I did not pay too much attention to the lugs, but he did mention they were all cracked on the snare drum. I thought he mentioned the bass and tom lugs were okay but maybe not.The drums are really beautiful, the only thing I noticed that was odd was the script logo on the mounted tom and eagle badges on all the others

By the way Kenny, very cool Gretsch kit!

A purchase like this would tend to end up as a display item no matter what. How many of us would have much comfort taking an historical piece like that to a gig? If you're playing it at home, the lugs probably would survive for some time. If you are buying new lugs, that is a serious investment and one you'd want to make very soon before Jim retires and no one else moves up to take over the reproduction effort. Still, when was the last time any of us saw a Rogers mardi gras 20, 12, 14 and matching snare for sale? It's for the serious collectors. Very cool color. I wish I could get Steve Maxwell to sell me some of his repro mardi gras. Alas, wishful thinking.

I agree with you Dan.

Definitely more of an exhibit than a daily rider.

While my kit is all Eagle Badge I’d be leery of removing the kit from home especially for gigs.

And to be candid I don’t really get to play it as quite alot of lugs are cracked.

Definitely a kit to marvel and behold!

Decent outcome for seller and buyer.

Definitely a decent outcome for the seller. The buyer, I'm not so sure.

I love MG just as much as the the next guy, and the sizes are the ones to get, but with the number of hours required to repair all those lugs, or the $$$ to replace, the final cost for that fully tunable kit is too high, imho.

But then again, when will another opportunity strike? Perhaps a long long while. But that intangible game is one I don't desire to play.

Indeed congrats to both parties; it was well-executed and fun to watch.

Temptation for One of A Kind opportunity for sure. I did a restoration on a 5 piece B&B lugs set a couple of years ago. Took over a year to find lugs. Next B&B set I did the repair on most of the lugs, only to have the tabs start breaking.

No more B&B projects for me. More power to those that do the restorations, but . . . .

Does anyone know if for the bass drum, floor tom and snare, Rogers is making a replacement? The small tom seems to have a small lug that I've not seen.

Snare is the only one I have seen. Also seen the lug being used on toms with the second hole filled with small electrical cap.
