From Dan Boucher

The missing badges could be due to "badge embarassment" or "ugly badge removal syndrome". I think I removed the rather large LaBoz badges from my original drum set for both reasons. I surely wanted the "real thing" American made kit at the time I got them, but they were also very large and looked kind of silly. Now we rather like it as being a funky thing of the era. Of course, anyone who knew anything about drums at the time would not have been fooled by my attempt to disguise them. I do notice that Pearl only used 12 lugs on the bass drum. I wonder if that was to economize for loss of profit selling off to a second party seller like Sears or Montgomery Ward.

I guess I would have removed the badges back then myself just like the bottom rims were removed and bass reso head to be the in thing at the time for that concert tom sound.

I think they used less lugs and cheaper material to cut costs so they’re the more affordable alternative.

Most recent purchase. A 12,13,14,16,20” gold wrapped mij. Badges were taken off. Not sure what it was but obviously Pearl made. Luan shells.

Hello Olimpass,

I have seen those same Pearl made drums

badged as C.B. 700, Jet, Cortley, Bradley and Royce there are most likely others as well.

I had a few partials here, that I decided to combine into one complete kit.

note on the two drums that are the same gold color as yours

the bass drum shell was badged Royce while the snare drum is badged C.B.700 as are the two black toms. I was toying with the idea of changing the Royce badge on the bass to a C.B. 700 but the tiny nail holes did not match up so I left it alone.

Hi Kenwood, thank you for the info! It looks like mine may have had the C.B.700 badge looking at the shape of it. I just have the nail holes on my drums with the points of them sticking out a little inside the shell. I like the pearl gold satin wrap on these but they’re faded. Under the lugs are the true color. I’ve put heads and rims on the reso sides of the drums now minus the 12” cause I’m short a 12” 6 hole rim. I’ve ordered one and a 20” bass reso head for this. Thanks again!

Hello again Olimpass,

My bass drum shell has a slight fade going on as well when compared to the original hoops

which I switched out for the black

I have this other C.B.700 project here that I have not yet touched

the red sparkle is pretty faded

and the resonant sides on the three toms are all missing

20"12"13"14"FT but no snare drum

I like the red sparkle and looks like it’d clean up nice. You can always go with an mij chrome metal snare. I think it’d look great!

All the best with your project!

So you paint on the back of the clear hi-gloss and then use tape to bind it to the drum?
