Anyone remember the Gretsch Birdland kit that was discovered....

Nope...none of these kits resembles the one I remember. The one I remember was drop dead immaculate perfect and all the gold was there and no scratches on the shells....drop dead gorgeous mint. This is getting weird because I'm starting to feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. It was akin to uncovering King Tut's tomb when they found it...It was posted everywhere and everyone was going ape about it and especially the cymbals. I have looked everywhere and every one I find isn't even close to the one I remember.

Alternate universe, anyone? :)

And the one I saw Steve Maxwell show wasn't the one, either...but I'll bet he knows the one I mean. I read somewhere that he has three of these kits (which doesn't surprise me). I had no idea finding info on this kit was going to be this laborious. I was hoping someone would have all the old pics that were posted everywhere...I'm wanting to say it was early 2000's maybe 2005 something around there. And, again, when I say it was a complete set, I mean it -cases, sticks, every little doodad you could get with a kit at that time...the whole shebang!

No it's still in this universe. Look, didn't I just get done telling all of you exactly where you could find it? And even after I gave you the roadmap you're still incapabable of finding on your own?

Apparently so. All right I'll spoon-feed it to you:

Well, after sending two emails to "vintagedrums@aol.com" about the Gretsch kit in question, I haven't gotten a response. It's possible that he (Steve Maxwell) does have the kit I'm referring to...but, I can't be sure without some kind of confirmation of the provenance.

I thought it was an interesting story about one of those rare attic finds that we all dream about -although, personally, I'm not really even a big fan the Birdland configuration. The fact that the kit, cymbals and hardware, etc were all together, matched and in superb condition was the thing that set this treasure apart from some other similar kits.

I'll put it on the back burner and maybe something will eventually pop up about it.

Steve's website doesn't look like it's been updated in 15 years, so I'm guessing there's no one monitoring the mailbox.

To be honest, I've never even looked at his website until lately -trying to find out if he knew anything. But, yeah, I noticed that the site looked pretty outdated and kinda hard to navigate (for me). You're probably right about no one checking the email account.
