Installing grommet..

Hi there everyone. Need some friendly advice from you guys..

I'm so frustrated! Ive been working on finnishing one of my projects today and the last part was to install the grommet and badge. I have never done this before and I had a pretty hard time to get the grommets off the shells.. I though installing new one's was the easy part.. boy was I wrong..

It just didnt turn out good.. I used something similair to this

It just didnt work very well, I got the grommet installed but it looked like **** and it wasnt "tight".. so Im gonna get a steel ball and try that way instead.

A thing Ive thought about is that the grommet hole is quite alot bigger than the grommet. How much bigger should the hole be? Have any of you got any good tips for a first-timer when it comes to grommet installing?

The right tools for the right job, my friend!

Anybody in USA carry this tool? And for a reasonable price?

What about the steel-ball/ball-peen hammer combo?

Whoa - it sounds like your problem isn't the tool but the hole in the drum. The grommet should be a snug fit - it should barely go in - otherwise it will deform when you try to get it to roll over inside the drum (which I guess is what you're seeing). Check what the right size hole is for the drum you're putting the grommet on. Is the badge original? Did someone drill out the grommet hole? If you need to you can go to a larger grommet and make the hole in the badge and drum fit that.

You could also try a washer (or a spare badge) with the right size hole on the inside as well as the outside, which would give the grommet something to curl over on. That would be my choice if you don't want to change the grommet size.

Or if you really want to use that badge and grommet you could use wood epoxy or wood putty to decrease the size of the hole in the drum - though this may punch out when you try to snug the grommet.
