Hi.
Has Ludwig ever used a cast mount like this in oval Porto seat manufacturing or has the mount always be the triangular shape?
Thanks in advance.
I dunno if this helps answer your question, but I've got two Ludwig round-seat stools that have that same part. Both are the black vinyl seats with the late-type (1968+) underlined Ludwig logo.

They used that base on the 70's version.
Thanks guys. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on one for sale on in France through Reverb. These thrones are quite rare in Europe. https://reverb.com/item/35478287-ludwig-ludwig-60-s-vintage-throne
So I suppose if the seat is oval in shape, upholstered in red and with the old logo, it is a piece hodgepodge. I will make an offer to the seller.
Your experience is priceless. Thanks again.
Well, that's certainly a '60s seat, but it does appear that the cast mount is a replacement. I had one of those '60s thrones for a long time - that I bought new - and although I don't recall exactly what the cast mount looked like...I do remember when "the tube" portion broke while I was sitting on it! That wasn't pretty! And I'm a skinny guy.....I considered trying to find someone to repair it, but decided that I was lucky I didn't get hurt when it broke...so I bought a new throne.

I had one of those a long time ago and didn't think it was comfortable or all that sturdy. As far as I know, nobody has ever been impaled by a canister drum throne.
I completely agree. I love canisters. On this side of the ocean they are quite rare. The high shipping cost makes them even more expensive ... So a few years ago I made one myself out of a 12 " ø piece of PVC that some workers discarded when they were doing a plumbing on the road where I live. The cushion comes from an old unbrand drum throne. It was black and cracked. So I took it to a local furniture upholsterer. He charged me €8 (about $10) The most expensive was the wrap I bought to a German guy ...Et voilà : DIY white marine pearl Ludwig canister replica on a budget!
