My Newest Slingerland Acquisition!

Loading...

Hi all!

This drum just arrived today! I told myself I didn't need anymore drums, but when I saw this one, I had to pull the trigger and add it to my collection!

It's a Slingerland 1965 Deluxe Student, wrapped in original Light Blue Pearl. The posted pictures are from the eBay auction. This drum is so clean and shiny that nothing needs to be done! I recently acquired a 60's COB Festival snare drum that was almost as clean, but this Deluxe Student wins the prize!

What's interesting is that the shell measures 4-7/8" in depth all the way around. All my other wood-shell Slingerland snare drums...nine of them...are almost exactly 5.5" deep. My guess with this Deluxe Student? The person cutting the plies made a mistake and rather than scrap the shell, just went ahead and put the plies in the mold, installed the solid maple re-rings and called it a day! Let's face it, back then we weren't too concerned with advertised shell depth versus actual shell depth!

This is just a real beauty to add to my collection! Now, I still need to get to my Deluxe Student in Sparkling Green Pearl and my Artist, wrapped in original Black Diamond Pearl!

Mark...That little six-lugger Slingerland snare is incredibly clean. You already know that I love good six-lugger snare drums. This Slingy would be at the top of that list.Do you have a matching drum set for the snare?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

That's sweet. Wrap looks really close to my Ludwig Club Dates of the same era. Wonder if the same company made the wrap??

leedybdp!

No, I don't have a matching set! I just thought the snare was incredibly clean and I've never had one in Light Blue Pearl.

Hi Delorso!

Yes, it really is cherry! I'm almost a bit disappointed that I don't get to spend some time cleaning it! LoLoLoLo
