Are these Tama Imperialstar concert toms?

Hello,

I came across these two little 8" and 10" concert toms.

I've already exchanged the brackets - so they aren't genuine any more.

The Star/ Tama lugs no. 6470 seem to be original.

And I guess it's the Zola coating from early Tamas inside?

The hoops are different: one is 'sticksafer', the other triple flanged.

But - I've never seen this version of a natural wood finish on Tama concert toms before. Also there's no hint to a former Tama badge anywhere.

Or are these NewSound toms?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ralf

Those are definitely Tamas. I assume they are imperial stars that have lost their original wrap. Those concert toms had smaller rectangular badges not at all like the ones on double sided toms.

Thanks.

What astonishes me is, that I've never come across this natural wooden finish - neither in sales offers (google) nor in any of the early Tama catalogs ... It appears not to be the shell wood, as it splitted a little bit at the edge on the open side.

There are no signs of adhesive, nails etc. - also no marks from a previously added badge at the shells.

I also think they are Imperialstars that have had the wrap removed. The wood kind of looks like luan that has had the grain filled and sanded, but it may be some other wood veneer that was installed after the wrap was removed. It might even be glued on with contact cement which was a common do it yourself method. One way or another, it's not from the factory.

Tama used that style of hoop on the 6" and 8" toms. They are basically bongo hoops. It was a good idea because since those drums are so small, it was harder to hit the hoop.

Thanks for your input, appreciated.

So I can feel free to use whatever I want as a re-wrap.:)

So it was not unusual that the hoops were different (Sticksafer-style/ 'normal' triple flanged)? Understood. Thanks for the explanation.

Does someone happen to have a photo of that Tama Imperialstar badge (in a high resolution) for me?

Thanks,

Ralf

Are you looking for a pic of the MIJ "T" badge or MIC oval badge?

This one, to keep it close to genuine. ;)

Hello,

Thank you. I'm afraid, not.

Do you have another one without reflections and laying flat on the floor?
