Big Swing Face Album

Request from you Buddy Rich experts:

Any idea what drums Buddy Rich was using when Big Swing Face was recorded? The front cover only shows a ride cymbal and splash. The splash rod looks like it could be a Rogers. There's some indication online that the back cover might show him on Slingerland drums. Given that it was recorded in the winter of '67, I'm thinking he may have still been using a Rogers kit.

Thanks,

The short answer is yes!... Buddy was still with Rogers when this was recorded. It was February/March of ā€˜67 I believe. That said, 1967 was a transitional year for BR drum wise. By the summer he had left Rogers and was with Trixon/VOX, and by Fall he was playing a full set of Fibes COF. By 1968, he was with Slingerland. Of note: Buddy used the Rogers ā€œLā€ arm for his splash cymbal with every company he was with after Rogers .. until .. his third Ludwig endorsement in 1978.

I had little doubt that you'd have the answer to that one. Maybe he was using your WMP set? :)

A whirlwind of endorsement that was!

Thanks much.

Don't you just hate show-offs?!!!...unless they're pictures of BR drum sets!

Tommyp! As always, it's just a pleasure to see your BR drums!

Dave/Mark!

Tough crowd ... tough crowd! I get no respect, none at all! 🤣

THANK YOU kindly Dave! They are indeed beauties. The drums are 1965's, and that's with the rare for then 14X24. I have had these for just about 20 years now. This set was my ideal back in 1967 when my father brought home the "Buddy Rich Swingin' New Big Band" album, and on the cover, if FULL color, as we all know, was that gorgeous set of Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity's. I begged my parents for that set ... but nope .. I got Ludwig, and I was very happy with those! Still ... I laid in wait for approx. 35 years and my chance came when I found these. I went through the entire set .. as we are all apt to do .. and the end result is as shown. Really neat thing was the set had all the original hardware with it! Anyway, they play, look, and sound GREAT! .. and .. I gig 'em! Glad you enjoyed!😎

Mark!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣!!!!! I guess the really neat thing is I am able to grab pics of these in "the gig zone" ... so, they aren't "hanger queens" anyway! THANKS as always for the comments my friend! 😎

Speaking of the "Buddy Rich Swingin' New Big Band" album cover, here it is being proudly displayed in my "Buddy Tribute" frame. My girlfriend put it together for me. The BR autograph sticks could not be found in the States, so I had to purchase them from a seller in England! The dollar bill was autographed by Buddy at Disneyland in the late 70's. I got up the nerve to approach him during a break. Buddy was very gracious! The dollar bill is centered in a piece of Blue-White Marine Pearl.
