Hi guys-

I'm about to cut some 70s Ludwig edges.

I know I need a 60 degree bit with bearing.

What do you guys use for the outer roundover?

When it comes to roundovers, do people use different ones for subtle outside rounding than say what they'd use on a vintage "full" roundover/baseball bat type of edge?

I see there is some rounding toward the edge of the drum, which needs something small and subtle.

I also have some other drums that are full roundover with re-rings, and I'm trying to figure out how to approach that with bits.

What edge is on the drum now? Is it full roundover like your other drum ?

What are you cut'n with ?

60's shells were 3/32" round over on the outside. Ludwig currently uses a 1/4" round over on their Legacy shells, but every vintage shell I have measures out at 3/32". Whiteside is the only company that makes a 3/32" round over as far as I know. There might be others, but since Whiteside makes probably the best bits, I didn't look any further. They got sharper at some point in the late 60's or early 70's after they had gone to the clear interiors.

You using a table, Right ?

If you want 70,s Ludwig, I think routing was two steps, inner and outer.

Yep- using a table. I have a hitachi router, kind of average. Not exactly a beast but it gets the job done OK.

It appears to be a bit of a roundover on the outer edge (small, under 1/8").

The interior is definitely 30 degree, all the way down through the reinforcement ring, obviously. So that will take a bit of finesse.

Is it more than knocking off the edges with sandpaper ?
