I'll be interested to hear how the floor tom turns out. I redid two toms (12 and 14) last year to match an original Ludwig Burgundy bass drum. The wrap was custom made by Delmar (via Precision). It is just a hair lighter in shade than the original but so much closer than Merlot. There was one other option which was a bit darker but it looked too dark to me. I've heard that the Gretsch version of Burgundy was a bit darker than Ludwigs but have never had the two side by side to compare.

I’m excitedto see what it looks like. I ordered through Drum Maker(Andy) in Nashville, but it is a Delmar product. One can order both Ludwig and Gretsch burgundy sparkle on their website and there was a slight difference between the two. I expect there will be a difference between the oldand the new, but like you said, not as much as there is between burgundy sparkle and merlot

I was going to order my wrap through Drum Supply but after several requests for additional information ( via the website, email, and telephone) went unanswered I ended up getting the wrap through Precision who had it to me within a couple weeks despite it having to be custom made by Delmar.

I misspoke, Drum Supply. They told me Delmar needed a minimum order to do a run of the burgundy sparkle and it took five months. Communication wasn't easy, but I was able to speak with Andy twice to get the order in. Next time, maybe I use Precision, but I hope there isn't a next time. On a positive note, Jack Lawton, spent a lot of time speaking to me about how to fix the lifting seams on the rest of the set and I'm going to try fixing the snare when it gets warmer. Jack was a great person with whom to deal. If the work is as nice as he is, I know I'll be happy.

I can't see the bass drum to really compare the difference in color, but they look much different that the merlot. I originally had Maxwell redo my hoops in merlot and it looked awful when up against the burgundy, at least to me. My bandmates never noticed, nor did they when I had them redone in silver sparkle. Much better looking in silver sparkle.

Here's a side view. Sun makes it tough to judge but the Bass drum hoop inlays are also the new stuff.

Precision told me it might be months before Delmar would get around to making my wrap but then called a couple days later to say they were making it right away. This was during my first covid layoff and so maybe they were needing stuff to do.

Through some detective work with the help of both Precision and Delmar we narrowed it down to the wrap I bought being the one that Andy sells as his "Ludwig" Burgundy. Delmar said that Andy did not have a special color mixed but selected one off the pantone chart. There are only two that are close and this is the lighter of the two. Andy says on the website that the Gretsch version is the darker of the two he offers so by process of elimination I selected this one. Precision reached out to Andy because they didn't really want to take any of his business...but he didn't respond to them either. I'm happy with the way it turned out. I wish I had enough left to do a snare drum but I happened to get a $50 8x12 in need of a rewrap and so decided to make it match the floor tom (floor tom is a custom made 3 ply shell, mahogany/poplar/maple with rings made by Bernie Stone). I have an original Burgundy 8x12 but that drum has some serious rash on one panel and since the floor tom turned out so nice I wanted to make a "pristine" one. I have an all original Super Classic set in Burgundy as well.

Those are stunning. And the color - wow! Root beer sparkle?

That is a perfect match! and definitely lighter than the Gretsch. I am impressed and it gives me hope that mine will look equally as good when set up along with my Gretschs. I'll have enough to do the BD hoops, but I like how the silver sparkle turned out and I believe I'll stay with that for now. I never liked burgundy sparkle until I got my set and now I love it. It grew on me.

The drums look great! I highlighted this line from your post as just another indication of the class of people at Precision. I consider them friends... I have been a customer and endorser since the mid-90's.

Well boys and girls, the finish work was superb, kudos to Jack Lawton. The color is slightly darker, but I assume my original set faded a bit. All in all, the colors are close enough that I won't be tempted to rewrap the whole set. Overall, I am happy and I don't know that anyone but another drummer will notice the color difference. The second picture didn't come out well. I'll try for some better ones later
