Well, I haven't done this for quite some time. I had mostly been in the selling or stable mode for several years. However, I have always had an affinity for blue sparkle (color of my first drum set - a '67 MIJ kit).
I've had this basic kit at least a couple of times before. I was tempted by it's general condition, price and the fact that my current kit of the same configuration is BDP. BDP is fine, but I prefer the blue sparkle. So I bit for it and will replace the BDP set-up with this kit.
The seller indicated he got if from the original owner whose parents bought it for him around 1965. Evidently, it got some use and was pretty much stored for the last 50 years. It seems that is not an unusual story.
Given the fact that the floor tom is a speckled Dayton with a typed-over Banner label 5266 and the PowerTone is 16170, I'm thinking there is some memory fade on the part of the original owner because those facts add up to a kit distributed somewhere between late '67 or early '68. The other two are 69xxx, so pretty squarely in '67.
The seller gave me a bit of a break because I didn't need the mix of Ludwig, Rogers and no-name hat stand, pedal, seat and snare stand. I have all I need of that stuff. So it worked out well with the free shipping. I may not keep the PowerTone because I have a nice 7-line Dynasonic and one snare is enough these days.
I won't be able to unpack it for several months because I'm working outside the country for a while, but it should be fun to see it eventually. I will, of course, put the tom and cymbal rods on their correct sides. Clapping Happy2
