BR "flat-base" cymbal stand on eBay

Loading...

Attention all of you who know Slingerland stands! I spotted this stand on eBay... https://www.ebay.com/itm/383898973362?ul_noapp=true

I politely let the seller know that this is an MIJ stand and that there is no such thing as a "Buddy Rich" flat-base cymbal stand. His reply?

"I’ve sold these before. It’s a Slingerland stand made in the USA."

You try to help people out with reason, but I guess there's no cure for stupid!

Hey Mark!

... and he is ALL of that!, and then some! Buddy NEVER used Slingerland flat base cymbal stands .. and these aren't even those! .. and when he DID use flat base stands, they were WFL/Ludwig back in his 1950's endorsement. But hey, you know. It's the internet!

SELLER: “I would offer you my live mink for $1000.”

MARK: “Umm, sir, that is a cat.”

SELLER: “It is a mink! I have sold many before.”

(Mink meows)

SELLER: “He has a bit of a sore throat today...”

Hi Tommyp! Thanks for weighing in on this. As always, your knowledge of everything "Buddy" is incredible!

I'm almost tempted to purchase this stand, because I'd be protected by eBay's "Money Back Guarantee" which states the following... "If you received an item that’s incomplete, damaged, counterfeit, or otherwise not as described, request a return from My eBay. We will track the resolution and help if you ask us to step in."

What makes you think that it is not a Slingerland stand. It looks just like 3 I have that came with my one owner 65 Gene Krupa Deluxe 1n set. They are in great shape and still have the slingerland labels on them.

I agree that there is no Buddy Rich stand and its overpriced, but it looks slingerland to me.

Mine does still have the black rubber feet on the ends of the legs but his might have rotted or fallen off by now.

skins, the tilter is NOT Slingerland. Look at yours then look at the one in the add. That alone refutes his claim of 'all original'.

Oh, I was not looking at the tilter. Sorry. I thought people were refuting the guy based on the legs.

Everyone...

It's all in the details and being intimately familiar with everything. When it comes to Slinerland from the 60's and 70's, I feel comfortable knowing that I can't be fooled!

Here are some pictures of my first-generation #33-F Flush-base cymbal stands. The legs have always been thick aluminum. There's also a very large wing screw, which did change to an aluminum version, but was still large. The wing screws are easily detected!

Another thing many of you may not have picked up on is that the stand in question is a 4-tier stand! I have an identical stand and it's MIJ. Slingerland NEVER issued the #33 in a 4-tier version!

Next, look at the lower section. Slingerland used a beefy attachment to the tube that held the large wing screw. This is no where to be found on the eBay stand!

The tilter was also mentioned. Yes, it's an MIJ, NOT a Slingerland!

Nice work Mark. Great details. A lot of the MIJ kits were made to deceive and on quick glance they can.
