First post! slingerland question...

I played the drums when I was about 9 and at age 12 or so I received a brand new drum set. I am now 44 years old. The set was bought in about 1976/1977 and was used just for my own entertainment. Never played in a band and the set has been in the basement for over 30 years. What should I look for on my set to get an Idea of what I have?? I recall the set is all over-sized heads and looks to have a white pearl look to it??

Are these sets desirable to current drummers or is it more just a collectible??

Thanks...I hope to get some pictures to see if someone can tell me what my parents bought me 32 years ago.

Ishot!

I would love to see some pics of it. Can you post some pics of the kit? If you need help, we can walk you through it. Check out the Vintage Drum section to get an idea of the exact kit you have. Click the Slingerland section and go to those years and you should find your kit. Let us know the sizes (measure heads off across the top and along the side) of all the drums. That will give us an idea of the configuration. Also, need to know what hardware came with the kit. Lots of us are drooling at the prospect of a one-owner 70's Slingy kit. Nice stuff. Great to have you here.

So it's Slingys from '76 or so ? Well...that is on the cusp of the company tanking...but they may have still been OK back then.

What should you look for ? I dunno. Just post some pics. The big Q for me is what the interior of the shells look like. Now, if they have reinforcing rings on both ends....then, indeed....your drums are quite nice.

....if not, then they still are quite decent (unless the shells are the poplar shells...in which case, the kit kinda sucks). But I believe the poplar shells came a few years later (?)

We are curious...lotsa Slingy fans here !Mallet Player2

Reading through the history on this site and in The Slingerland Book by Rob Cook.. your drums were produced during a real period of transistion for the Slingerland company. 3ply to 5ply.. re-rings to no re-rings, painted interiors to natural interiors... all of that kind of going on around that period.

No mention at all of a decline in quality during this period but certainly some major changes in drum design and appearance.

It will be interesting to see what you have.

Welcome.

Not a Guru... just interested..

This set has never been out of the basement never seen a bar and unfortunately never played in a band. Kind of sad!! I quit playing at a young age and now I want to hit the skins!! Do drums need to be tuned?? If so, how do you go about doing that??

So do I have a cool kit?? I know my parents paid a bunch of cash back then for them!!
