1970's Ludwig 3/ply in Red and Champagne Sparkle

Pictured here for the first time completely set up, My Mid-70's 3-ply Ludwig's in Red and Champagne Sparkle. The 22" bass drum and 16" Floor tom are the original kit. When I bought it 2011 it came originally with a 12 X 8 rack tom. I paid $40.00 for all 3 drums. Yes you read right, that is not a typo. In 2012 I added the 14 X 10 wrapped to match as closely as possible. And just this summer I finally added the 18 X 16 wrapped to match. Unfortunately I don't have the 12 X 8 anymore. I stupidly sold it cause I needed $$$$.

How does it sound you ask?? Well I played it as a 4-piece about 7-8 years ago and it sounded incredible. But I haven't played it since. Probably because I didn't have a place to play it. Never thought I could love a drum set as much as I love these old Ludwig's. They are my pride and joy. With the money I originally spent to purchase the kit, and what I have put into it over the last 9 years. I'm keeping them until the day I die.

Glad these make you happy. The butcher block wrap in the background of pic 2 caught my eye. I have a 74 set in BB wrap that is mine forever, also. Bought by my dad for me when I was in high school

Thanks. I never realized how much the red wrap faded and how coppery the Champagne sparkle became on the 22 and 16 until I added the 18 X 16 which pretty much has the same wrap, just new.

My Ludwig Butcher Blocks are pieced together. Meaning None of the drums were born together. The 14 X 10 and the 16 X 14 are concert toms from 1977 that I converted. And the 22" Bass Drum is from 1979.

Here's a close-up shot of the 16 & 18. Really shows you the difference between a year old wrap and a 45 year old wrap.

Beautiful Slingerlands Longjohn. The combination of Silver and blue sparkle really makes the kit stand out. Don't see a lot of Ludwigs or Slingerlands kits with combination wraps. I see them mostly of Marching/Parade Drums
