What Color is my snare?

Loading...

Hi.

So I just got the stop sign badge snare in this video yesterday.

I cannot figure out what color it is.

Is it Antique Maple or Walnut?

In the gretsch book the color from the 70-80s seems to be Antique Maple.

The modern antique maple is WAY darker.

The d rum could also be walnut?

The Tag says 4158W... Wonder if the W means Walnut?

The finish looks too light to be Walnut. A Google search of 4158W turns up some sites noting that the W is Walnut. Still, every example of Gretsch's Walnut is much darker, so I'm a bit confused with the "W" after the 4158.

W indicates Wood shell (B is for brass) at that time (that's straight from a pricelist)..

Antique Maple code is AM

Walnut is WW

Maple (natural) is WM

I think that's a Natural snare that has aged.

WM (wood maple)

I would remove a lug. The original color should be visable under there. Cool looking drum!
