Slingerland snare basement find, not sure next move

Hi all. Got me a 20 dollar chrome over 3ply mahogany 8 lug snare hoping to do some resto magic on it but I fear the chrome wrap is too far gone to be made very pretty, just too much pitting. It is all original and complete. Shell is sound and round. The hoops and hardware are solid and I know those will clean and polish up to 'excellent used' condition. My choices here are to: 1 - clean and polish, reassemble with new heads and sell it as is (call it 'patina'), or, 2 - re-wrap (I'm pretty good at this having done several) with some leftover nice veneer from a previous project, new heads, clean polish and reassemble, or 3- re-wrap with same chrome wrap and rebuild. Options 1 and 2 will cost me just some varying amounts of time, option 3 will cost that plus whatever the wrap costs. Oh, plus 30 bucks in heads no matter what. Looking for insights and suggestions, maybe an option 4. Thanks.

I would try to clean up that she'll, you might be surprised how good it could look. I did that to a fibes set years ago and I couldn't believe how good they came out. I like to save original fimishes on drums, took me a while to get that original is just the best choice. A little patina or whatever you want to call it can give the drum some mojo!

Thank you!

Nice project. Also, you may want to 'factor in' that this was not one of the top line snare models of it's day.

Try Quick Glo. Did a post on this here a while ago.

Clean it up!

I have a Slingerland COB that was in a slightly better condition - it turned out pretty good.

Very clean! It appears to be the Two-to-One snare drum, with 12 lugs on top and 6 on the bottom. Is that what you have?

Yes Mark, you are right. In fact you commented on it when I was working on it last year!

I'm just trying to encourage Mike W to carry on with his project!

If the wrap is not salvageable to your satisfaction maybe look at some "Mirror Chrome" wrap from Jammin Sam's... worked for me... wont cost the earth either,,

Cheers

Thanks for the replies. What I did: tore the drum apart, assessed everything and cleaned as much as I could with the Quick-Glo stuff (a new favorite product), and put back together without bothering with new heads. Turned out okay. I figured the components alone are valuable to someone even if they don't like the....ummm....patina. Lugs and throw are excellent, hoops are good.
