Beginner kit score

Wow, what a $75 bargain! You did good! The GP kit is a good enough beginner set and can even sound very good with better heads. Get that Supra cleaned up and post pictures. Just shows that great deals are still out there...even though sometimes harder to find!

I'm still wondering who originally paired up (and played) that vintage Supra with a Groove Percussion set??

Great eye! It's not uncommon to see drums listed using the brand name on the heads. Whenever I see one listed as Remo or Evans I always take a closer look. One of my best finds was an ad like that, but sort of in reverse. It was a clear acrylic kit listed as Slingerland, so I thought it was a rare Slingerland Phantom kit I was going to see. Turned out the only thing Slingerland was the tom batter heads and the snare stand. It was actually a 60's Star kit with badges removed. (now replaced thanks to the great and powerful Ralf) At the time I had zero knowledge of MIJ kits and their value, but luckily the cymbals and hardware that came with the kit were enough to make me buy it. It all worked out because now the Star kit is restored and fantastic, and researching it got me started here on the VDF, so if you are sick of my longwinded forum posts then blame goes back to that guy who didn't know what kind of drums he was selling.

JR! There were most certainly MIJ acrylic kits! I searched through my pictures and found this late 60's Royal Star. It was offered without the stands and cymbals. Sold way back in July, 2007, for $745.99!

If I were to make a guess, I'd say that the snare drum was probably a hand-me-down from a parent or older relative. Then, the starter drum set was added.

I always check the pictures closely for just this reason. Years ago I just missed a Lacquered Brass Super 400 mixed in with a Borg kit for $180 on Cincy Craigslist The new owner had no clue and ended up on here asking what it was.

What types of cymbals with that drum set?

The hi-hats are Camber cymbals and the other two were no namers. Another surprise was the cool heavy duty vinyl cymbal bag for 16” cymbals that they were given to me in.

On the picture, front view of kit, you can see the bass drum leg that was replaced with a drum stick.

"On the picture, front view of kit, you can see the bass drum leg that was replaced with a drum stick". ................. __it happens. I guess that I'm not the only one who had to improvise like that on gigs.
