Looking at kits online, I saw this kit at a very reasonable price.
Sellers ad: Great begginer or practice drum set. 4 Groove Percussion drums with 1 Yamaha snare drum. 3 cymbals with stands. One replacement leg on bass drum per picture. Includes drum tuner and drum sticks. Some felt missing for cymbals. Normal wear on drum head skins per picture.
I looked at the pictures and something caught my eye. Do you see it?

The seller called it a Yamaha because it had a Yamaha snare side head.
Worth the price of admission alone! Great find!
Yep...I immediately noticed the Supraphonic with BB muffler! Got to be around 1967 or earlier. Great score!

Great eye! It's not uncommon to see drums listed using the brand name on the heads. Whenever I see one listed as Remo or Evans I always take a closer look.
One of my best finds was an ad like that, but sort of in reverse. It was a clear acrylic kit listed as Slingerland, so I thought it was a rare Slingerland Phantom kit I was going to see. Turned out the only thing Slingerland was the tom batter heads and the snare stand. It was actually a 60's Star kit with badges removed. (now replaced thanks to the great and powerful Ralf) At the time I had zero knowledge of MIJ kits and their value, but luckily the cymbals and hardware that came with the kit were enough to make me buy it. It all worked out because now the Star kit is restored and fantastic, and researching it got me started here on the VDF, so if you are sick of my longwinded forum posts then blame goes back to that guy who didn't know what kind of drums he was selling.
