I was a teenager in 67 and my dad took me into biascos on Belmont East of central ave

in Chicago

and there in the window was my brand new pink champagne holly wood , I tell you I was the proudest and happiest guy In The city

just my band days got sideline when my first wife got pregnant and I hocked the drums for ring

my career as a drummer never did get back on track

I was a garage band drummer after that and now even those days are gone as is first wife .But later in life stuffed away in cases in storage Sale was a beautiful original heads some brush marks on heads PC kit I like to think I found my old kit and now I live my drum dream at 69 It’s the only one I have left but they say save the best for last ....btw the drums went to a jazz drummer in Michigan and that’s were I found this kit I always wondered it this was my kit too bad I never wrote done serial numbers lol ...Gary aka houndog

Nice kit Marty. Champagne sparkle was a big seller in that era and featured in just about every major manufacturer's catalog. Some actually had copper flakes sandwiched into the plastic layers, so they really lit up under the lights.

I hear ya', O-Lugs., and I agree with your "keep it original" attitude.

I would prefer the original type white heads on a vintage kit, but I could never get the "old" bass drum heads to sound as good as the Emad's.

And since that is my gigging kit, I prefer to use the Emad's.

If Emad ever makes a white head with the muffling, I'll get them!

On my 69 22" Ludwig bass I have coated Evans EQ4 on batter,( or PS3 if you want all remo both 10 mil with control ring) and coated Ambassador on reso with no port hole, sounds great

Marty, it's your baby and you can do whatever you feel is proper to achieve the goal you're after. A working kit needs to give you the sound that you want....and only you can decide what that sound is. Enjoy them in good health!

I believe they had real silver flecks in there too. Why it was more expensive. These are my 64-68 Ludwig Champagne Sparkles. The Jazz fest is a 1964 5" 1/2" X 14"

I have a1969. Ludwig Hollywood drum set in champagne sparkle that my mother bought me in payments,used in 1971, I toured with this set for years, retired it 30 plus years ago,since then I bought another one,early 70 s, 3 ply,what I noticed about these two sets,the 13 ride Tom chokes on the Tom mount, but if I switch it to my left , it opens up,both 12s will choke on the right side of the tree mount,odd but true,any opinions,by the way,i use the same tree mount on both sets,might that be the problem.
