Slingy Bass Drum Rods Question

Did Slingerland ever sell bass drums with key rods instead of T-rods? Hmmmm

...but when he played on his drum, he made the stars explode....

Yes...their 12 x 20" bass drums came with key rods, as did the 14 x 20s that came with the "Jet" set that had chrome tom style rims.

Ahhh, this may be helpful to my mystery.

My Slingy kick is an 18" (14" deep) - and is most likely a Jet Outfit kick. My mystery is that when I got the drum, it had key rods, AND a matching wooden hoop (i.e. w/ matching inlay strip).

I've just sorta wondered if it was a pre-Jet incarnation, before the chrome hoops were added as standard, or were wood inlayed hoops a Jet option. I don't know what year the Jets were officially introduced as such - mine has a smeared date stamp - 196?.

As I slowly work on getting missing parts, I've wondered much about this. It only has 1 hoop, with the other missing - Was the other one chrome maybe?

The other oddity is that the claws are like those on old Radio Kings, not the conical "newer" kind. Due to the matching wood hoop, I've wondered if those were an original "old school" style option, too.

Or maybe over the years, someone was a real ditz, lost everything and frankensteined it together.

I'll probably never know....

True THANKS for that handy info Clapping Happy2

The Jet was offered with optional wood hoops, with or without a tom mount...

Thanks Again Rich K.

- The only "Jet Outfit" info that I've seen came from elsewhere on the forum - a '67 catalog page 8 shot. Unfortunately, that pic has no mention of hoop options, although I see the 20" bass drum for $10 more, and the consolette option (save $5.50)

- - I'd like to find a 1966 catalog to see if the Jet (or similar) Outfit has anything different. And maybe a '68 catalog too.

Any additional info on your source for the hoop option specs?

Next time I give that kick a cleaning (soon i hope), I'll post some pics here.

One more related Slingy key rod bass drum question:

Were the 18" metal hoops used on the Jet kick the same as any other 18" Stick Saver hoops that Slingerland would have used on, say, an 18" tom?

I know that the pedal / batter hoop would have had the holes for the kick pedal to hook to, but what about the reso side?

Hmmmm

a question,

wrapped in a riddle,

baked in an enigma,

and rolled in shredded coconut.... :p

The reso rim is the same as a s/s rim that your would fine on a floor tom...The 18" hoop on batter side had a piece of metal plate that the pedal would mount too..Mikey
