I was able to get through to Jim yesterday! He told me that the reason callers can't leave a message is due to the huge amount of telemarketers out there! We talked for over 50 minutes about how the pandemic is affecting his business and band. We then went onto discuss the new Rogers and Slingerland. I really enjoy talking to Jim! So, Jim is alive and well...all things considered!

I've purchased the long 14x14 Rogers floor tom legs from Jim - 21" as I recall. The chrome work is outstanding. Nice pieces all around. Glad to hear he's doing OK.

Mark - You might be the only other guy I know of who's not using Face Book. I thought I was odd man out on that. Apparently we miss a lot, but I think the gains are well worth it.

Dan! I joined FB years ago and immediately began receiving so many "invitations" that it just turned me off to the whole FB thing. I suspended the account years ago! And, yes, while we may be missing a lot, I'm able to survive without it!!

Well, you have a leg up on me. I never joined. Funny enough though, my wife tried to join from Jordan. They denied it saying they could not verify her identity despite the fact that she told them everything they asked. So she got lucky and never tried again.

I gather there is a fair amount of vintage drum selling going on there though.

Jim's a great guy. His parts saved my first kit, a late '60s Slingerland my dad bought for me when I was in high school.

Always found him easy to reach and talk to. Glad he's still out there.

I'm restoring a 1965 Slingerland set. The floor tom has the push-button leg brackets. Jim makes them in both the round and hex versions. I need the hex. When I talked to Jim just last week, he said that he was getting quite a few orders for these and was making up a new batch. Looking forward to them!

Yep Mark, the good doctor says '64-'65 for the hex push buttons. Looking forward to seeing your new set.

I've had the pleasure of spending a good deal of time with Jim in the drum repair shop he ran for the Brook Mays/H&H Music chain, and later on at his own shop. He custom-made some small parts for a couple of vintage snare drums that I brought to him and taught me a lot about how to tweak my drums. Since we moved 250 miles away to the Houston area, I miss the occasional visits with Jim at his little shop of wonders.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

slingerfan!

My leg brackets still had two of the three original hex buttons! I'll store the two original buttons and use all three of Jim's hex buttons. It's going to take quite a bit of time until the kit is done. The original Sparkling Red Pearl wrap has real cosmetic issues that can't be fixed, so I'm deciding if I want to re-wrap them. Since this is a kit I have no intention of flipping, I'm not worried about the resale value!
