The bass drum did, indeed, have twenty lugs. I traded those drums with a matching Slingerland Red Satin Flame snare drum to Bobby. I can't find any pictures of that drum set. I seem to have lost a whole virtual folder of my old drum sets... damn.
Leedy Project Begins
I just took the chance that I might have it on an external drive. Low and behold!
I didn't find a picture of the kit with the matching snare drum with it. A COB Dynasonic appears to be hiding down behind the small tom and bass. A separate picture of the snare drum was in the file though.
PS - Looking at the snare picture, I think that was one the seller had. I don't recognize anything in the background. My recollection is that I purchased it and then shortly after that left the country for work. Came back a couple of years later and we sold the house in MA to buy in FL. A lot of the drums had to go and that's why I didn't keep it. Gorgeous thing. You must regret letting it go too. The snare was as nice as the kit and a perfect match. I'm thinking that kit and snare were near 9 or better.
Those are stunning and probably look great under the lights as well.
I try not to have any regret over selling or trading away any of my drum sets because the hobby of drum collecting bit me hard for several years. During those years, I would get caught up in the fun and the drama of getting a new (to me) drum set very often. But, I had to do this within reasonable limits. At one time, I had as many as thirteen vintage drum sets, and was beginning to feel like a hoarder. So, I began to prioritize which drum sets I did not want to part with and which ones could be used to trade for other drums. I was able to do a few trades of two nice drum sets for one super nice drum set. Money-wise. It pretty much balanced out. I traded a couple drum sets that might fetch $500 each for one set that was worth easiiy $1,000 or more. This worked out very well for when we sold our 3,000 sq ft house and downsized to a new 1,800 sq ft cottage that was built for us. I now have four vintage drum sets and one vintage cocktail set with enough vintage A Zildjians and hardware for all of them.
Looks like you had a good and successful plan. Still, it's good you left a few items to restore. Bongos look great. Enjoy them!
Sadly, I never got them under any lights. I didn't play them out even once. Another reason I let them go. I've had just about no action since those days. In daylight, however, they were as classic as you get and the sound was great. Truly missed.
