Kit Made of marching snares (as toms) and marching bass drum???

Loading...

Has anyone else made a kit out of a marching drums....marching bass drum as a kick is pretty common, but using snares....13,14,15 as toms? That is my plan. I already have an extra 28" Ludwig marching bass drum I have converted into a kick drum. I ordered a 14" marching snare (single tension) to be a rack tom and when I get the funds, I plan on buying a 15" or 16" marching snare to be a floor tom. Ideas? I think it will be pretty cool. I'm am going to wrap them all to match and probably paint all of the hoops black.

Judging from what you have done with your original marcher, I know the rest of your kit will be fantastic! Good luck, my friend!

I have a kit that I’ve made from orphan Slingerland drums in ages from the 50s to the 70s. It includes two 15” floor toms that we’re both marching snares. They look great in white marine pearl and tune really well.

"If 'A' equals 'success' in life then 'A' equals 'X' plus 'Y' plus 'Z' where work equals 'X', 'Y' is play and 'Z' is keeping your mouth shut" - Albert Einstein.

1920s 14"x5" Ludwig Super Sensitive Dual Snare
1957 6 1/2" x15" Slingerland WMP Concert King
1938 8"x15" Leedy Broadway Standard
1947-53 14x6.5" NOB Ludwig & Ludwig Universal
...plus a bunch of mismatched Slingerlands that collectively make a pleasing noise.

I build at least one of these a year. I have used a 16" shell before and just stained it like the rest. I added wood hoops and brass tension rods. 15" floor works as well. It's a very satisfying feeling to play those old tubs once assembled. Good luck.

Keep fixing them up...

I converted a Rogers 12x15 marching tenor drum into a floor tom, for use with my 1966 Headliner kit. I really like 15" floor toms!

The 14" snare stacks nicely on top of it too. :)

Great looking kits dudes, great idea.

What a beautiful kit!!! If I didn't have so much invested in my old Star set, I'd love to try to assemble a similar one! Simply outstanding!

I've done a few kits like this. Both include a 17" marching tenor as a bass drum. I have a 12x17 marching tenor/8x12/10x14 marching snare as floor tom in maple finish. And a jellybean kit that has a 12x17 marching tenor/9x13/ 12x15 marching tenor as floor tom.

Awesome...thanks for the pics and info guys! I'm looking for the last drum to complete the setup (floor tom). The snare I got for the rack tom is already painted white (should get it soon), so I'm going to paint all of them to match. Already got the 28" kick done...used grey chalk paint and am going to paint all of the hoops black.
