Im looking at a Sonor SQ2 snare and wanted some opinions. Do Sonor snares hold their value? Im looking at an SQ2 Snare, Beech shell with an American Walnut outer finish 8x14. It is like new, asking $800, these originally sold for around $977 new. I would try and get that price down some. I have a pretty nice collection of Vintage Ludwigs, New Ludwigs, Craviottos (2), DW and Tamas but I do not have a Sonor Snare as of yet in my collection. Would love any thoughts or opinions.

But if it you're buying as investment vs how it sounds,put you money in a money market account.
Thank you pgm554. Good point and I agree, if im looking for an investment a money market account would be wiser. I suppose my belief is if I enjoy the drum and am happy with the sound and it will at least come close to holding its value then its a good investment for me.
How do the Sonor snares compare sound-wise to other top line snares on the market? My perception of Sonor is they are extremely well built, kind of a Cadillac of drums, like the Vintage 60s Rogers (Cleveland) were. Is that accurate?
This is a topic with no ending. Until you have experienced multiple snare drums you wont be happy with anything. Try to keep a couple of drums long enough to evaluate and get used to. You will find the right one if you are patient, but try to remember, picking out a "sound" is in your head.

SONOR drums are top crop. Only issues will be the one's you make. The metal Ferro-manganese snares of the past are in demand now.
Sonor used to be called the "Rolls of drums." They are definitely a top quality brand and SQ2 is their high end series. That said, the SQ2 has been in production for well over ten years now, so there is no shortage of them on the market. My take is that it's a beautifully crafted instrument that will hold it's value to a certain degree, but it's not an investment piece.
