Sonor Phonic D506 throw-off side butt plate

I was able to buy a D506 snare (circa 1979 or 1980) but it came missing a part. I'm wondering if anyone knows of where I can get the plate that affixes to the throw-off side of the strainer which secures the snare wires to the strainer mechanism? It's just a chrome plate with a couple slotted screws. I'll attach a picture that illustrates the missing plate and screws. I'd be willing to buy a strainer just to get it working properly again.

First, you bought a heck of a snare drum. Second, that pinch plate could be in a music store junk draw, it's not an uncommon piece and lost a lot. That throw is on at least ten different SONOR models.

You can't buy one separately, but other brands with an elongated oval hole can fit until you do. You Just need small screw and nut. The screw is tapped into that SONOR piece

Hey, thanks for the reply! Yeah, I do love the thing. It sounds pretty amazing even with the snares not setup totally proper. I have it taken apart for cleaning right now. When I have it back together I'll post a few pictures of it.

The rear butt plate is still original. I should be able to 3D print a plate from it. The screws from the original will clue me on on what to buy to get it more or less back to original state. Otherwise, I was just hoping that maybe someone had a strainer mechanism laying around and I could purchase it.

You got a nice clean one there. I got the same drum and it's showroom too.

I notice two things, You have the small logo lugs like mine, and the new 80's badge like mine, and mine is stamped for 78. The decade change did not use the small logo lugs in all my research so far,...does it have a date stamp inside ?

The other thing I notice is the depth. It looks like a 505, like mine. My 506 had a bit more shell between the top of lug and hoop. Can you re measure it ? 505 will be 5 3/4 or very close to 6 but not quite, the 506 will be 6 1/2 or close to 6 3/4 but not quite.

Oh, and your stand is in far better shape than my beat up Luddy stand !!

I'm not dreaming about your drum, because I got it, but I think I would kill for that stand !!

Hey, thanks. Yeah the hardware is in immaculate shape on the rest of this kit. Single owner and he sold it back to the shop that he bought it from in 1980.

I measured the shell, it's definitely 6 and 1/4" of steel from top to bottom. I had read that the 506s were not 6.5" in depth. That's why I assumed it wasn't a 505. Maybe I'm wrong? In any case, it's slightly more than 6" deep, not 5" by a long shot.

That's 506 depth, the tolerance was 1/4 + or -. I never saw a 505 at + 6". They are not Steel. They are Ferro-manganese steel. All that means is there is not enough Manganese to make it Stainless Steel but enough to make it rust resistant and hold the plating better. It is plated with Nickle, then Copper, then Chromium. SONOR got it from a car manufacturer that made floor pans. That auto maker went out of business. SONOR stopped using it because the auto maker had a great price for them.
