My latest drum project is this 1930's single tension Slingerland marching snare drum (14x10). Got it on Reverb for a little less than $100. I know vintage drums (for the most part should not be modified at all), but since it already had a non-original paint job and has single tension rods, I decided to make it my own. I used chalk paint and did a process of painting and sanding a few times. I got the lugs from Drum Factory Direct and already has some claws that had some good wear on them to match the rest of the drum. I'm happy with way it turned out and am going to use this as my "fat sounding" snare drum in my collection
30's Slingerland Marching Snare before and After
Now that drum's got some character !
Very cool - I love it !!

Very inventive finish. I like it! Nice job.

What a beautiful drum! You did a fantastic job! What impresses me is the fact that this old beauty will once again see service. I have an old WFL marcher that is probably my favourite to look at. I now have some thoughts about actually going the next steps and setting it up as a real player. Thanks very much for sharing!

Thank you! I was a little hesitant to modify a drum this old but I wanted it to something I could actually use. Here is a cover I did with the old Slingerland :) [ame="https://youtu.be/N5TS84sk_AQ"]https://youtu.be/N5TS84sk_AQ[/ame]
