Hoops for Calf Heads Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Would the single flange hoops work better at handling the thick wood flesh hoops of the calf skin heads? I picked up a nice stack of calf heads that don't fit within a Ludwig Rogers or Slingerland hoop. The multi-flanged hoops just won't allow the fat wood flesh hoops in. I was thinking single flange might work. Any advice?

Hi, Yes single flange hoops would work[i have used them on old vintage snares and toms..But i also have had slingerland, rogers, ludwig multi-flanged hoops that would work also with the heads--maybe the heads you got are newer made ones? if you didn't want to go with single flange hoops, wood hoops would work also...mikey

These are really old heads and in good shape. Would you happen to have some single flange hoops and clips for sale at a good bit? I looked at new. Let me know. 16, 13, 12. Thanks.

Single flange hoops would work best. Thats what was used with those heads originally when I removed them from the drums. Glad you can find use for them. I didn't want to take the risk of resizing and retucking 50-some odd year old heads. I would be delving into dangerous territory then....:D

Sounds great. I'll pick some up for the reso side of my drums and then ruminate a bit. Eventually, I'll figure out if I want to do single flange on both sides. Thanks guys! I'll post some pics when I get them in and we'll decide together if they look stupid or if only one set will work.

Just checking back in. Anyone have some single flange hoops with clips for a 12, 13, and 16? I need these for the reso side only. Thanks.

MCJNC,

You can get single flange hoops at drumfactory direct. They also sell claw hooks that work great. Unfortunately, the hoops only come in chrome or brass, and aren't available in nickel.

Not a big deal though.

Hope this helps.
