Ludwig Spotlight

Loading...

Ok, let's go from 7 drums to 2, this Ludwig Spotlight has been on the San Antonio cl for several months. He started out at $800, he now has them listed for $750. They look to be in great condition, but I can't find any information if his price is fair or too much. I really dig Pioneer snares, so this has me a bit interested.

Seriously, Mark. What are you going to do with those? Gig them? I don't think so, do you?

That set was made back in the day when hobby drummers only needed a snare and bass drum and music was much different than it is today. I could see some 90 year old guy playing those in a German oompah band.

That's true, I wouldn't gig them, except maybe the Pioneer snare. I would keep them in the rehearsal room, but you're probably right, I need to keep looking.

In my life I've done more gigs with a 2 piece than any other set up.

I say grab 'em!

(Or at least start by low balling the guy)

I did a gig last year way out in York, PA with my friend, cigar box guitar maven Shane Speal, and I used a snare and bass drum, with hats and a crash/ride. It forced me to be creative with very little, but I wouldn't want to do this all the time. It's pretty limiting.

Some guy came up to me on break and said, "Some drummers come in here with monster drumsets, ten drums and a dozen cymbals, and you come with almost nothing and sound good." All I could do was say thank you.

Mark, if you like the two-tone lacquer look, maybe try to find one of those Pork Pie Hip Pig lacquer sets used with the center lugs. GC was selling them several years ago and they still do. They sounded decent and looked great, in 13/16/22 and 12/14/20. They had red and gold and black and gold as far as I know.
