Interesting CL Ad In NJ

I came across this CL ad this morning here in NJ. Four vintage kits, all modded, but decent prices, I think, if anyone is interested. The Gretsches look particularly nice.

That is tempting!

All 4 kits look to be really good deals. The Gretsch looks very tasty. Even the Tama looks like a heck of a great deal. You can almost tell that this seller must be a real gentleman because the kits have obviously been well taken care of and he's not looking to make a killing on any of them.

Edit - I just noticed that this is my 500th post and I'm now a Vintage Drum Guru! Well, I've certainly learned a lot in my time here, but I'm not sure I'm a guru...but I'll take the new title!Excited

No, it's official, Tommyp has just sent me my credentials for the Drum Guru's National Convention to be held in Las Vegas. Oh, all expenses paid!WalkingClapping Happy2

Some deals there for sure!!

Here is the listing and a pic for future reference...

For Sale:

Four wonderful vintage kits that look and sound great!

1965 SLINGERLAND STAGE BAND in Champagne Sparkle - 13/15/22 with 14 snare.

Mods: Ludwig double tom holder and tom bracket, a clip mount added on the floor tom. Floor tom generic leg brackets use the original holes.

Bass drum hoops, 13 reso hoop and snare batter hoop are non-Slingy replacements.

"P" and date stamps (Apr '65) on all drums. Huge sound - $500

60s/70s LUDWIG STANDARD in Gold Mist - holy grail 12/14/20!

I believe everything is original, even the heads. I'm no expert though. An Emad is pictured on the kick, but I have the original Ludwig batter head that came on the drum. Your call. No mods.

Light weight and versatile. Love this kit - $725

60s GRETSCH RB - 12/16/20, re-wrapped in Black Pearl (not Black Diamond Pearl) from Precision.

12 and 20 have the paper tags, the 16 does not and probably pre-dates the other two. Again, no expert.

The long spade is from Maxwell, and I have the original short spade that came on the drum. Only one comes with the kit.

The only mods are 2 extra holes for a Luddy bracket on the 12 which were plugged prior to wrapping.

Regular heads fit snug to tight, but everything's right with the world with these Remo Classic Fit heads - coated Ambassador weights all around, with the original (I think) Gretsch logo head, which btw swims on the shell. Go figure.

That unmatched, great Gretsch sound- $850

80's TAMA SWINGSTAR - 12/13/16/22, re-wrapped in a white satin type finish. Okay, technically not vintage, but a grand old kit just the same. The 12 and 13 racks were huge power toms that were professionally cut down to standard sizes and re-edged to match. The thumbscrew on the bass drum mount is a Gibraltar replacement, everything else is 80s Tama, made in Japan, goodness - $280

None of the pictures do any of the finishes justice, you really have to check them out in person.

Everything's polished, lubed and ready to go.

Bass drum pedal and snare stand are NOT included.

Email me for more details, pictures etc. I do not have a smart phone so there might be a delay in responding, but I will get back to you ASAP.

I do not do phone calls.

Cash and Carry Only, located in West Orange on the Livingston border.

If it's up, it's available so please don't ask.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers

I would buy that Tama kit for $280 in a heartbeat. They look great, and with the right heads and proper tuning, will sound perfectly acceptable and usable. I just don't need more drums!

Update: I just emailed the seller and thanked him for pricing the drums right, taking good photos and writing good descriptions. I might go look at the Tamas. I know, I said no more drums!

If I needed a Gretsch kit and could spare the time, I'd be in the car :)
