Same area as Drumbob so same vibe. There's a few tricks to occasionally finding some great things but those finds are few and far between. I mostly use Craigslist or FB Marketplace at this point to pick up hardware. A few months back a guy had a COB Slingerland snare and a DW9000 single pedal that he sold me for $40 total cause he wanted to clear space.

This guy has been selling this kit for years and I know Bob and I have spoken about it briefly but it is kind of fun to watch the prices go up and down as the weeks change. There are a bunch of kits in the area like it. Someone in NY has been trying to sell their 70s blue sparkle Ludwig kit for $2800 for a few years now. There's a guy down in (what I would call) South Jersey who buys up kits and parts them out. No emails, no texts, gotta call him. He's not a drummer and he's not the most pleasant person to deal with. Another guy has a habit of selling things and insists that prices are non-negotiable but he too has those ads up for months or years on end. At some point the price has to be negotiable right?

If you're looking for steals and deals, CL no longer feels like the place to find them. There are a few other places to look, but I can't let on my secrets! ;)

Ahhh, the good ol days!

Another thing I've now seen are idiots doing scorched earth, If they think the price is too low they contact the seller telling them charge more, I've now had this happen 3 times in the past year, two Slingerland kits that I had know about for years came up, Both needed a lot of work many missing parts etc. One of the kits I resold after buying it replacing $300.00 in parts that were missing. Both of the Slingerland kits One I had known about from the late 80's the other I had known about for 3 years, the last kit was given to the seller for free. By the way the three scorched earth dolts all contacted me about the last kit. I told all of them very high prices. They all passed. I sold it to a good friend of mine who stated when he's through with i could buy it back for the price I sold it to him for.

Back in October, 2019, I listed a Commodore PET 4016 computer that I restored to museum quality. The person who did the electronics restoration is a senior, and respected, member of the Vintage Computer Federation. His advice was to list it for $500, as it was easily worth that amount. BTW, I took care of repairing the keyboard to perfect functionality and cleaning up the cabinet inside and out. I'm really proud of how it turned out!

Within an hour of listing it on CL, I received a scathing email from some crazed person that there's no way it was worth this amount. He even used profanity! This person seemed to lack any type of social skills, so I didn't let it get to me! The PET didn't sell, but when I do eventually relist it, it will still be for what I know it's worth!
