Got a rare Orange Trident kit (by Capelle)

Loading...

Hello.

Yesterday I did a 6 hour trip (the longest until today) to get a drumkit.

A couple days ago I saw an ad online with a drumkit for sale with two concert toms that got my attention. The picture had bad quality but it was easy to spot the Gretsch stop sign badge on it. I contacted the seller, thinking it was a full Gretsch drumkit.

He sent me some pics and, for my surprise, the toms had a badge with "Orange London". My reaction: -What? Drums made by Orange?

I googled it and discover the amazing work that Jacques Capelle did in the past. I found out the drumkit is the Trident Model.

I decided to go get it due its rarity. Apparently it has not extra holes nor crazy modifications. Maybe the bassdrum leg reinforcements, on the inside, are not original. I got to figure it out. 3 missing lugs on the small tom, bottom rims mising on both toms, missing bassdrum hoop and hardware, bottom/front bearing edges a little bit rough, but the wood is nice.

It came with other drums, cymbals and hardware. The kit costed me as much as the trip, so maybe it was worth it. What do you think? :)

The snare drum is a 14"x6.5" MIJ Asama, with parallel action strainer. Unfortunately the system is broken on one side. It came with the original snare wires.

The concert toms are both Gretsch. One has the stop sign badge but the other has the square badge. I think both were painted white on the inside. They have a dark textured wrap on the outside. I will post more photos later showing the stickers.

The cymbals are a 20" hollow logo Zildjian china (or swish) and a 20" Swiss Paiste Dixie.

The Zildjian is cracked in the center hole. Edges are fine.

The Paiste has rivets installed and has not major issues.

More pictures.

I forgot to take a pic of the hardware. It came with a 70's Premier snare stand, a crappy hihat stand, a Tama bass drum pedal and a Tama clamp.

Great score!

I thought you said it was orange. It looks black to me......................Laughing H

That snare..................first, I read it as "Asthma Percussion". Second, it sure is unique! It looks like someone took black electrical tape to the top and bottom of a really cheap snare (I've actually seen that before). Is that factory or did someone do a custom paint job?

Yes. I think it was painted black on top and bottom. It will be easy to remove if the chrome plating is still there underneath.

I'm not familiar with these drums, but they are certainly unique and should look and sound great when you get the missing bits together and clean her up.

Keep us posted on your progress with cool drums!

Yeah. I always share my scores and restorations with you guys. I wish I had more time to restore them.

There are some kits and orphan drums I bought recently but didn't post here. I will share it as soon as I start the restorations.
