Yes, those long Tama snare lugs were definitely the weak part of the drum! I remember reading an article in Modern Drummer, some decades ago, about one drummer who loved his Tama snare drum, but it suffered from the lugs breaking. As such, he would check out every drum shop in every city he was in and get as many of these lugs as possible!

Mark Yes I learned only after buying my snare of the lug problem

I am thinking of going with tube style lugs though it kills me to do it

not to mention the tell tale signs of the original lug's outline

more than likely showing up on the shell.

Such a beautiful drum, a real shame Tama never corrected things.

I also thought of trying to fill each lug with a resin of some kind

to try and help reinforce the casted fastening points from warping and/or breaking

So far I have done absolutely nothing for fear of making things even worse.

Norma was made by at least two different manufacturers. Star made what appears to be most of them but I have found some made by Yamamoto. Yamamoto has their own brand "Gracy" but they did stencil work as well. They are known for their Gretsch style lugs. BTW - I'm the guy who bought the $12.50 Norma (Star) snare. We now know there are more than the big three who made stencils, add Yamamoto and Sakae to the list.

Wow, just when we thought we had this figured out, you came up with this information. Somewhere on the forum, I believe this Yamamoto was mentioned as a possible builder of these, I just can't remember where it was.

Question, does Teisco fit in here anywhere as a builder or just a distributor? They do sell/distribute Norma guitars, drums and gear. If so, that would make 3 Norma builders!

I'll tell you, with the Evans 56 heads and new heavy duty 2.3 mm steel hoops, these Norma's really sing. I'm very happy with this kit.
