Cool. I like alternating toms and shaking things up occasionally.

Ya, the 12,13,16,22 combo sounds really good, but it's not the most comfortable for me. I'm digging the 12,16,22 right now, I'll use that configuration for awhile then go back to the 13.

I'd like to find a 14,20 in the same finish and use the 12 with those.

That's what I always liked. I've got a 67 Ludwig burgundy 13 16 22 that I liked to use for rock gigs and a matching 12 14 20(currently set up in my studio) I used for jazz and small footprint gigs. I had the option of a 2 up and 1 down or 2 up and 2 down with a 20 or 22 bass. That was more than enough flexibility for me.

I've also got a set of '67 Burgundy Sparkle Ludwigs in 12/13/16/22 configuration and I would love to find a 14" or 16" floor tom to add to the set. I never use the 12" tom on this particular set. I have always liked the one-up-two-down setup best, but finding a floor tom in that wrap and worse yet, one that matches what I have, is a hard thing. My drums have very little fade; the burgundy is still "eggplant" color and not brown. I'm always looking. I found a 16" last year online, but it had too many drill holes, and the seller wanted $400 for it.

Bob - I bought my 22 13 16 new in 67. In 75 I was working at a drum shop in Pomona CA (UDC - Universal Drum Center) and a surfer came in with the matching 20 12 14 . He wanted 100 bucks for them so he could buy a new surf board ... what a lucky deal for me!

Checking that pesky inflation calculator, that $100 was almost $500 in 75. Crazy, huh? Still a good deal, but I think the surfer wound up with a pretty decent board as well!:p

Or, he turned that $100 into a large bag of weed, dude.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

LOL - yea that was a definite possibility but I got the best end of that deal. I still got the drums and I'm pretty sure his surfboard (and weed) are long gone!

It's been great to have the full set of Burgundy Sparkle Ludwigs in 12 13 14 16 20 and 22 giving me the flexibility to change my kit set up a bit from time to time - I never get tired of them. They've served me well over the years.
