Interesting kit. How many plies is it now ? 4 ?

Technically, 3-ply, considering that the veneer is in the neighborhood of 1/32" thick.

Hi frankie,

Nice kit. I see that you are using my ca 1958 kit to illustrate a "transition kit". I am cool with that. However, I think "early teardrop" is more appropriate, since - except for extremely slight variations in the lug design, mostly concerning the curve of the "neck", these kits are really teardrop kits, not in-betweens.

There's nothing like Phonics. That 506 will hold it's ground with anything. When you get it fine tuned (heads, tension) you'll love it.

Also note the size and gauge of the throw compared to Ludwig Supra. Similar looking only, Not even in the same league.

If you very slightly, with a stone, hit the corners off the slide ever so little, it'll take the sticky off the action.

Ever sell a kit and regret it?

I sold this set a few years ago but saw them pop up for sale locally a few weeks ago... Snagged them again. Early 60s Sonor in Black Galaxy Sparkle, my favourite Sonor wrap from the 60s. They are ridiculously great sounding drums.

Lo and behold, the matching snare with the offset Teardrop lugs went up on the Bay a few weeks later and there was no turning back :)

I also picked up the repro bass drum mounted cymbal stand from Schneider Drum Repairs in Germany.

I'd like to get some leftover wrap to make some drum inlay for the drummer side hoop, I already swapped out those clear heads with some coated Ambassadors and need a couple of other little things but that's it.

This San Francisco Model in Gold Ripple Multi-Brilliant finish (circa late 60s/early 70s) has an added matching snare to go with the chrome one it had when I bought it. It is almost complete after several months of searching for parts.

I can't really tell, but it looks like the logo on your badges goes all the way to the edge of the badge. Are they ? If they are, there are not very many SONOR drums with that badge. I have intentionally been looking to date that badge. I still can't because it's one of the few times SONOR changed mid year. It has to be. It is the only one I can't date. I found like 3, and could not get a date stamp, only pics. Very hard to find.
